Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for the procurement, negotiation, supplier quality and on-time delivery of raw materials, MRO (maintenance, repair & overhaul) items, and high mix, low volume materials/supplies required to support customer orders.  This position will also be responsible for Traffic & Logistic operations; team member development; and developing supplier partnerships.  The purchasing group is responsible for supporting four manufacturing facilities in the Mid-West. 

KEY FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops, leads and executes purchasing strategies which deliver measurable improvements in cost, quality, and on-time delivery.
  • Develop departmental KPIs that are aligned with corporate goals and manage for improvement
  • Develop supplier partnerships with a strong focus on quality and on-time delivery
  • Participate in contract negotiations and supplier selection
  • Analyze market and delivery conditions to determine present and future material availability and prepares market analysis reports
  • Hire, train, coach, develop and evaluate performance of purchasing team
  • Participates in capital expense budget projects
  • Develop and promote a culture of continuous improvement and team member involvement and drive continuous improvement initiatives within function
  • Key team member on company wide Operational Excellence and Lean Program

Qualifications

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Production and Inventory Management, Certified Purchasing Manager or APICS certification preferred

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • 7-10 years of experience in a heavy manufacturing or industrial manufacturing environment required; with a minimum of 5 years leading a purchasing team
  • Demonstrated experience sourcing high mix, low volume materials
  • Job shop knowledge/experience in metal machining and assembly operations, preferred
  • Excellent negotiating, problem solving, analytical, project management and organizational skills with keen attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive relationships internally and externally
  • Proven leadership skills in both team building and team development
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills
  • Familiarity with sourcing and supplier management
  • Strong ethical judgement along with decision making skills
  • Knowledge of market research, data analysis and purchasing best practices
  • Strong MS Office skills Excel, SharePoint and PowerPoint
  • Successful track record of evaluating and improving financial systems, processes, and driving efficiency improvements
  • Knowledge of ERP operating systems
  • Ability to travel up to 20%
