Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for the management and leadership of Cleveland shop floor operations to ensure a safe work environment, production efficiencies, high quality products and increasing levels of customer and team member satisfaction.

KEY FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan, assign, and supervise manpower and equipment operations to insure that production results consistently meet customer’s quality and delivery requirements in the most cost-efficient manner possible.
  • Follow priority dispatch report and shop schedule.
  • Maintain open communications with subordinates and Operations Manager in regards to operational issues related to manpower, materials, equipment, scheduling issues, priorities, etc. 
  • Have good working knowledge of Union Contract and be capable of responding to a first step grievance after consultation with supervisor and/or HR Director.
  • Assist in developing and implementing a culture of continuous improvement and team member involvement.  Implement new production methods and processes and recommending changes for improving products and/or lowering costs.
  • Lead and implement Operational Excellence and Lean programs throughout the manufacturing site to improve safety, quality, schedule attainment, efficiencies, and customer satisfaction.
  • Suggest methods and improvements for shop efficiency.  Motivate team members to reach or exceed these goals.
  • Lead programs to identify and eliminate waste utilizing lean tools throughout all manufacturing processes.
  • Provide leadership for team member relations through effective communications, coaching, training, and development.
  • Consistently enforce employee compliance with safety and work rules, company policies, procedures, and standards via our corrective action disciplinary procedure.
  • Perform evaluations of subordinates in a timely manner each year.
  • Monitor the proper care and condition of all tools, equipment, facilities, and other physical assets in department and determine need for replacement or repair.
  • Work with Operations Manager to develop CapEx requirements.
  • Promote and lead Environmental, Health & Safety objectives to ensure complete adherence to legal, regulatory and company policies.  Lead plant EHS continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Work with Operations Manager to improve the Culture and Climate throughout the shop.
  • Prioritize maintenance needs throughout the shop and institute Preventative Maintenance Practices
  • Manage staff levels, wages, and hours

Qualifications

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • 5-10 years management experience in a heavy manufacturing environment required
  • Familiar with MRO (maintenance, repair, overhaul) business
  • Job shop knowledge/experience in metal machining and assembly operations
  • Strong machining knowledge with CNC and manual boring mills, vertical and horizontal lathes
  • Strong assembly knowledge related to rebuilding large machinery
  • Analytical and critical thinking capabilities
  • Proven problem solver utilizing root cause analysis, countermeasures and verification for effectiveness techniques
  • Excellent project and program management skills
  • Experience implementing manufacturing strategy
  • Ability to effectively communicate across all levels of an organization
