The Technical Delivery Lead is a critical hybrid role acting as the key facilitator of delivery engagements while operating at the intersection of delivery management (60%) and technical skillset (40%). This role is central to the success of our Data & AI squads, combining the strategic oversight of an Engineering Manager with the execution focus of a Delivery Lead. You will lead cross-functional squads ensuring the robust delivery of scalable data pipelines and ML models. You will be responsible for clearing technical roadblocks, embedding technical guardrails and CI/CD best practices, and ensuring that technical architecture aligns with business value. Acting as the bridge between technical execution and product strategy, you empower your team to build high-quality, reliable, and secure Data/AI solutions for Endeavour.

Here is a taster of what you can expect in this role:

1. Delivery Leadership (60%) Agile Coaching & Practices

  • Ceremony Facilitation: Play a lead role in the planning and facilitation of agile ceremonies including Daily Scrums, Sprint Planning, Retrospectives, and Big Room Planning (BRP). Responsible for the application of agile & scrum values, ensuring full participation and a continuous improvement mindset within the squad. 

  • Impediment Resolution: Actively identify and remove squad blockers and impediments to ensure planned sprints are delivered as expected.

  • Release & Quality Accountability: Decide whether the work the squads have delivered is ready for release, holding accountability for the quality of the released work. 

  • Team Empowerment: Mentor and coach the team to be empowered, instilling a proactive, positive, and innovative team culture.

  • Capacity Planning: Monitor the ongoing health and capacity of the squad, ensuring resources are planned effectively and the team is set up to deliver end-to-end outcomes. 

  • Adaptive Planning : Drive collaborative roadmapping sessions that focus on outcomes. Translate strategic intent into measurable outcomes, maintaining a granular, prioritised backlog that allows for iterative delivery.

  • Scope & Value Management: Facilitate continuous backlog refinement, coaching stakeholders on value trade-offs. Ensure scope evolution is handled through re-prioritisation, ensuring the team always works on the highest-value items within their capacity.

  • Time Management & Scheduling: Monitor delivery health using Agile metrics instead of static schedules. Use data-driven forecasting to provide stakeholders with realistic expectations of feature completion.

  • Optimise Value-for-Spend: Manage delivery capacity to maximise return on effort, ensuring financial resources are aligned with the most critical product priorities.

  • Adaptive Resilience: Proactively identify risks and dependencies across the portfolio. Use data to surface delivery threats early, facilitating collaborative "pivot or persevere" discussions with stakeholders.

2. Technical skillset (40%) Strategy & Value

  • Architectural Alignment: Responsible for technical design discussions, ensuring that data pipelines, feature stores, and ML model serving infrastructures are scalable, secure, and aligned with enterprise architecture working closely with principle pillar leads/ Tech Leads. 

  • Hands-on Guidance & Code Quality: Support the team of CI of our delivery guardrail framework, CI/CD pipelines and automated testing strategies to ensure reliable deployment. Foster a culture of quality by establishing coding standards and governance working closely with principle tech leads and senior managers.
    Working closely with tech leadership ensures the system is secure, performant and scalable whilst the team builds features. Eg., ARB, security compliance, performance testing etc. 

  • Technical Backlog Ownership: Work alongside the Product to own and prioritize the technical backlog, advocating for necessary infrastructure upgrades, refactoring, and automated testing. 

  • Vendor & Tooling Evaluation: Drive technical evaluations for build vs. buy decisions, assessing new AI/ML tools, cloud services, and vendor platforms to modernize our tech stack working closely with Senior Managers and Tech Leads. 

3. Stakeholder Management & Communication

  • Technical Translation: Act as the "technical translator," converting complex architectural constraints and ML performance metrics into understandable business impacts for non-technical stakeholders.

  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Product Managers, Data Scientists, and downstream business consumers to ensure technical solutions are feasible, viable, and directly solve business problems. 

  • Strategic Product Alignment: Partner deeply with Product Managers to ensure the backlog reflects the highest-value priorities. Facilitate the bridge between technical feasibility and business strategy, ensuring the team is always focused on delivering the most impactful outcomes for the organisation.

  • Cross Functional Orchestration: Act as a high-level dependency orchestrator, navigating complex cross-squad and cross-departmental links. Proactively resolve bottlenecks by facilitating "Sync of Syncs" and cross-functional forums, ensuring a smooth flow of value across the entire organisational value stream.

  • Leadership: Act as a core member of the Data & AI leadership team to ensure delivery agility is integrated into high-level strategy. Collaborate with Product and Capability leaders to champion an agile delivery mindset, embedding lean delivery principles and engineering excellence into the fabric of the function.

Qualifications

Now let’s talk about you: 

  • Agile Delivery Expertise:Experience leading complex digital or data deliveries. Proven ability to navigate fixed-capacity constraints while maximising value delivery in high-stakes environments.

  • Technical Foundation: Deep, hands-on background in Data Engineering (Python, SQL, Spark) and/or Machine Learning Engineering (MLOps, model deployment, cloud ML services) and/or Data Analysis.

  • Delivery & Engineering Management: Extensive experience leading technical delivery using Agile methodologies, managing software development lifecycles (SDLC), and running CI/CD pipelines in a commercial environment. 

  • Cloud & Data Ecosystems: Strong working knowledge of modern cloud platforms (GCP preferred) and data architectures (e.g., data lakes, warehouses, feature stores, orchestration tools like Airflow).

  • Hybrid Governance & Pragmatism: Expert at balancing strategic planning with iterative delivery. Proven ability to provide ‘fixed’ portfolio milestones while protecting the team’s Agile flow and iterative mindset.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Exceptional communication skills with a focus on alignment. Experienced in leading difficult conversations on trade-offs, ensuring stakeholders understand the impact of scope changes. Proven ability to be the ultimate liaison between business stakeholders and technical pods. 

  • Core Skills: Strategic mindset, strong personal leadership, and a deep focus on outcomes and adoption.

 Desirable:

  • Multi-Framework Certification: Proficiency in Agile disciplines.

  • AI/ML Market Trends: Strong understanding of current trends in Generative AI, LLMOps, and advanced analytics infrastructure. Retail/FMCG Domain Knowledge: Previous experience engineering data and AI solutions within the retail, hospitality, or supply chain sectors.

  • Domain Mastery: Technical background in Data Engineering or AI, enabling high-quality coaching and more accurate assessment of technical risks and dependencies.
