Job Description
- Grow and nurture your State teams to be the creators of exceptional customer experience, service, and hosting spaces where customers feel welcome every time.
- Lead the effective delivery of the State-wide strategy, translating brand priorities into actionable plans that inspire our teams and brings energy to our Stores.
- Own the P&L with customer insights, products, planning and trade knowledge being core to successful delivery of financial outcomes in your State
Based in NSW covering 370+ stores, 11 Area Managers and 2800+ team members, BWS State Manager is a pivotal leadership role that will lead a diverse team of leaders across the State, leveraging data-driven insights to enhance the BWS experience while maintaining a high-standard of safety, team engagement, and financial sustainability.
Reporting to the General Manager of Store Operations, you will act as a strategic advocate for the brand, ensuring BWS continues to thrive in a complex, highly regulated retail environment. This is a Permanent position, based in NSW.

A day in your life as the BWS State Manager
This is a high-influence role where you sit at the heart of our National Operations Leadership Team. You won't just manage a State; you will shape the future of BWS by:
- Strategic Stewardship: Contributing to the overarching BWS Strategy and cascading actionable plans that align state performance with national ambitions. You will use data-driven storytelling to build consensus and influence strategic activities across the brand.
- Commercial Mastery: Driving the retail scorecard by delivering sales, margin, and EBIT results while analyzing industry trends to identify new growth opportunities.
- Championing the "Voice": Elevating both Voice of Customer (VOC) and Voice of Team (VOT) by leveraging data insights to meet evolving customer expectations and drive inclusion.
- Leading Leaders: Inspiring a team of up to 11 direct reports through proactive capability building, workforce skill analysis, and robust succession planning for future leaders.
- Innovation & Strategic Growth: Identifying innovation and growth opportunities, while proactively mitigating operational risks and navigating complex initiatives to keep us future fit.
- Safety & ESG Advocacy: Role-modeling a high-standard safety culture and an inclusive environment that demonstrates care for our product, planet, and people.

Ideally, you are a pragmatic and adaptable senior leader who thrives in rapidly changing landscapes. You don’t just manage operations; you lead people and strategy with a focus on creating a more sociable future.
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:
- Senior Commercial Delivery: Extensive experience in commercial delivery at a senior level, with a proven ability to analyse state-level financial data, participate in budget planning while growing the business leveraging operational levers.
- Exceptional Multi-Site Leadership: A minimum of 4 years as a senior Leader of Leaders, with a deep understanding of how to drive consistency, safety, and engagement across a complex, multi-site retail environment. Building leadership bench strength at store and area level.
- Strategic Influence & Storytelling: The ability to present complex information clearly to stakeholders, leveraging data-driven insights to build consensus for strategic priority delivery, creating energy and momentum in your State and Nationally.
- Operational Risk & Ambiguity Management: A proactive approach to identifying , assessing and remedying risks within a highly regulated and complex matrixed organization.
- Inclusive Capability Building: A passion for fostering an inclusive culture where you actively analyze workforce skills to develop capabilities ready for the future..
- Future-Fit Readiness: A high level of digital literacy and data-driven decision-making for commercial and customer fitness.
- Desirable: Experience within the liquor or retail industry, proficiency in SAP SuccessFactors or Google Suite.
