Job Description

Our data team has expertise across engineering, analysis, architecture, modeling, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and data science. This discipline is responsible for transforming raw data into actionable insights, building robust data infrastructures, and enabling data-driven decision-making and innovation through advanced analytics and predictive modeling. 

The engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, deploying, enhancing, and supporting Power BI solutions. The role requires strong expertise in Power BI, DAX, Power Query/M, data modelling, SQL and performance optimisation, along with the ability to understand business requirements and convert them into meaningful dashboards, reports and analytical solutions.

The team supports a mixture of new functional requirements, strategic transformation initiatives and a significant volume of production enhancements and support requests.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, build and deploy enterprise-grade Power BI dashboards, reports and analytical solutions.
  • Translate business requirements into effective data models, visualisations and actionable insights.
  • Develop complex measures and calculations using DAX.
  • Perform data transformation and preparation using Power Query / M.
  • Design scalable and reusable Power BI semantic/data models following modelling best practices.
  • Implement Row-Level Security (RLS) and appropriate access controls.
  • Develop custom and dynamic reports with strong focus on usability and data storytelling.
  • Optimise Power BI datasets, reports and models for performance.
  • Develop and execute complex SQL queries for analysis and reporting.
  • Conduct unit testing, troubleshooting and defect resolution.
  • Maintain, enhance and support existing production Power BI solutions.
  • Analyse existing BI solutions and identify opportunities for optimisation and improvement.
  • Integrate Power BI solutions with databases, data platforms and upstream/downstream systems.
  • Support migration away from spreadsheet/manual reporting toward automated BI solutions.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation.
  • Collaborate with business analysts, data engineers, business stakeholders and other distributed delivery teams.
  • Participate in Agile delivery processes and manage work through tools such as Jira and GitHub.

Qualifications

  • Good understanding of Azure platform services and Microsoft BI technologies.
  • hands-on experience in Power BI development, ideally within the insurance or financial services domain
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum delivery environments and managing work through tools such as Jira and GitHub
  • Experience mentoring or technically guiding other Power BI engineers is preferred for the senior role.
  • Strong communication and data-storytelling skills.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to independently understand business requirements and translate them into scalable and effective Power BI solutions.
  • Experience designing, building, and deploying interactive BI solutions and dashboards.
