Job Description
The cell engineer - electrode will formulate and design multi-layer electrodes. This candidate will work with a cross-functional materials team in a rapid-paced and iterative environment. This position will involve raw material characterization through electrode characterization, including defining quality control parameters and contributing to product scale-up.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Contribute to multi-layer anode and cathode development, optimization and qualification
- Contribute to of all aspects of anode and cathode development including AM, conductive aid and binder
- Perform research to investigate alternate node AM including graphite, silicon, SiOx, NMC, LFP, etc
- Work cross-functionally with product team to optimize anode/cathode performance for specific customer applications
- Define Quality Control (QC) requirements for incoming material and finished electrode
- Self-starter with the ability to take initiatives, exercise judgment, and work independently
- Characterize slurries using pH probe, surface tension, and conductivity meters
- Characterize electrode coatings using 4-point probes, SEM analysis, optical microscope, mandril test, and peel test.
- Build coin cells to analyze electrodes electrochemical performance, for example, charge/discharge rate capacity and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS).
- Process datasets using analytical software and programming languages such as Python.
- Complete lab and pilot scale mixing, coating, and calendaring experiments
Qualifications
- B.S. , M.S. or PhD in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.
- 1 - 3 + years of experience in lab environment
- Experience working with lab-scale battery testing and anode/cathode materials
- Familiarity with programming languages such as python.
- Familiarity with metrology equipment including SEM, TGA, DSC, BET, etc.
