Job Description

The Process Engineer will work intimately with critical manufacturing processes and equipment to produce EnPower’s key enabling electrode technology. As a result, the Process Engineer will work closely with the Cell Engineering Team to produce large quantities of precisely engineered electrode coatings to spec. The Process Engineer will be responsible for providing feedback to the Cell Engineering Team on the processability of electrodes, and at times recommending formulation or process changes to enable successful electrode production. Expected duties include dry powder mixing, slurry mixing, electrode coating, electrode calendering, and electrode slitting.

RESPONSIBILITIES

·        Evaluate manufacturing processes based on quality criteria, such as efficiency and speed

·        Study production and machine requirements

·        Develop and test effective automated and manual systems

·        Design and install equipment

·        Organize and manage manufacturing workflows and resources

·        Integrate disparate systems (e.g. equipment handling, transport)

·        Optimize facility layouts, production lines, machine operations and network performance

·        Resolve issues and delays in production

·        Mixing electrode slurries using large- and small-scale mixing equipment to formulations and compositions defined by Cell Engineering Team

·        Coating electrodes using production-scale slot-die coater and small-scale doctor-blade coater to precise coat weight loadings defined by Cell Engineering Team

·        Calendering electrodes to precise thicknesses/densities defined by Cell Engineering Team

·        Find ways to reduce costs and maximize quality

·        Train staff in new and existing processes

·        Collaborate with other engineers, contractors and suppliers

·        Ensure that manufacturing procedures follow safety and environmental regulations

·        Upgrade systems and processes with new technology

Qualifications

·  Bachelor's degree in related field (Electrical/Mechanical/Computer Engineering); post-graduate degree is a plus

·  Previous experience as a manufacturing engineer or similar role a plus

·  Knowledge of manufacturing processes, fabrication methods and tool design

·  Familiarity with manufacturing equipment and quality assurance techniques

·  Familiarity with one or more of the following processes:

    • Powder Handling
    • Mixing
    • Roll to roll slot die, comma or gravure coating
    • Slitting and Calandering
    • Die punch operations
    • Welding processes laser or ultrasonic, heat sealing
    • Precision filling of liquid, vacuum filling or metered dispensing
    • Battery test and/or formation

·  Well-versed in relevant software (e.g. CAD, MS Office)

·  Project management skills

·  Problem-solving ability

·  Teamwork skills

·  Ability to occasionally work late shifts

 

Able to lift and carry up to 30 lbs. and perform the following for extended periods of time:

• Standing or sitting

• Climbing/squatting/walking

• Repetitive motions and lifting)
