Job Description

The purpose of the role of Vice President of Business Development is to identify and qualify new business opportunities that leverage EnPower’s smart architecture platform and capability and then to transform these ideas into profitable business. This is a new role at EnPower so the ideal candidate will be hands on and take full accountability for establishing and growing sustainable business in both existing markets and newly emerging markets. You should possess a verifiable track record of developing profitable customer relationships through technical sales and marketing. Strategy and decision-making at EnPower are data-driven so an analytical bias is a likely characteristic of the VP of Business Development. This position will be based in Phoenix, AZ.

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with customers to understand their needs and roadmaps and communicate these to product marketing and engineering.
  •  Discover, map, and provide decision framework for selecting opportunities to pursue
  • Develop the business case for engagement through feasibility studies with the support of engineering
  • Frame, negotiate, and execute customer agreements including JDAs and sales agreements
  • Work with engineering to scope and develop project plans in a timely manner to meet customer commitments and then deliver on those commitments
  • Report on customer project status, financials, and keep customer demand forecasts updated

Qualifications

Functional Knowledge:

  • Excellent communications and presentation skills, active listening and inquiry skills to obtain a deep understanding of customer’s needs as well as what the customer’s alternatives might be
  • The ideal candidate will be from the battery or automotive industry with deep relationships that support a fast, successful start

Experienced in:

o   managing customer projects together with an engineering team

o   product development and management of physical products

o   negotiating agreements and contracts

o   influencing action without owning the resources

o   improving the customer’s preference to engaging with EPI on technical problems

o   creating new businesses

  • Proven success in introducing novel Li-Ion technology into electric vehicle OEMs and / or their suppliers
  • Demonstrated success in program/account management initiating and growing key accounts

Leadership:

  • Has experience in leading highly visible multidisciplinary project teams and initiatives
  • Provides thought leadership
  •  Subscribed to Servant Leadership models

Problem Solving:

  • Proactively identifies and solves the most complex problems without perfect information often with new and creative ideas, but has the discipline and humility to see and act on what is working and not working

Education:

  • Undergrad Degree required preferably in Engineering
  •  MBA highly preferred

Years of Experience:

  • 10+ years preferred

Travel Expected:

  • 20%+
