We started in 2017 because while challenges at work are universal, resources to deal with them are not. We envision a world where every person can have an accessible advocate to support their professional journey and equip them with the skills to successfully handle complex work challenges. 

Job Description

Empower Work’s Training and Development Director is responsible for the onboarding, training, and ongoing development of volunteer peer coaches/counselors. This position is currently part-time between 15-25 hours with option to scale up as the organization grows. The person could be based in the Bay Area or remotely. You will report to and work in partnership with the Founder and Executive Director. 

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the volunteer application content and process to ensure the highest quality pool of diverse volunteers

  • Manage the volunteer training content and process to ensure volunteer coaches feel prepared to deliver a high quality service from their first shift

  • Provide ongoing oversight and evaluation of text-based coaching conversations via an online application to ensure quality

  • Provide ongoing feedback to volunteer coaches on their approach to conversations, use of coaching skills, and ability create empowered action

  • Review all conversations for trends related to job challenges, effective coaching approaches, and ways to have greater impact

  • Partner with the Executive Director on strategic decisions related to providing the highest quality coaching service to the most people

Qualifications

Required:

  • Strong organizational coaching skills (i.e., listening, asking powerful questions, creating momentum)
  • Ability to teach others how to assess coaching conversations, see patterns, learn from their past mistakes, and find ways to increase their impact  

  • Ability to give feedback to others in a way that develops their skills and creates open communication

  • Ability to receive feedback and course correct

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in writing

  • Ability to support another person without telling them what to do

Desired: 

  • Broad understanding of workplace culture, organizational politics, and industry challenges

Experience: 

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience direct coaching experience in organizations

  • Minimum 3 years experience teaching coaching skills to others
