Engineering Manager


Based- Munster, however must be willing to travel to sister plants in the UK and to overseas machine manufacturers, as required by the business.


Key Purpose:


Responsible for Engineering and Maintenance functions to ensure standards are developed, set and maintained to meet company standards.


THE POSITION/OUTLINE OF RESPONSIBILITY


  • Management of engineering and maintenance function for the Munster facility.
  • Lead efforts to minimise equipment downtime and maximise production yields.
  • Prepare capital investment proposals.
  • Stay abreast of trends and development in the engineering and maintenance field. Recommend changes in policies as appropriate.
  • Initiate and implement proposals for efficiency improvements.
  • Analyse and supply input for cost trend analysis for budgets, new business opportunities and capital investment proposals.
  • Responsibility for departmental budgetary & cost adherence.
  • Ensure continuous analysis of environment including equipment and technology with a view to cost reduction.
  • Project management of plant re-layouts and major equipment implementation initiatives. 
  • Perform manpower and resource planning within own department.
  • Working with production, quality and engineering teams to ensure equipment and modifications are operated to guidelines.
  • Development of operator training manuals to run machines and diagnose faults.
  • Demonstrated administrative, organising and communications skills required.
  • Self-motivation with drive, enthusiasm and commitment.
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a team environment essential.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience of engineering methodologies and processes.
  • Ability to co-ordinate and prioritise tasks.
  • Strong analytical and project management skills essential.
  • Commitment to innovation, continuous improvement and excellence.
  • Ability to lead, motivate and inspire department members.
  • Demonstrate excellent problem solving skills necessary to resolve problems effectively and efficiently.
  • At least five years’ experience in a similar leadership role in a world class manufacturing environment.
  • Third level qualification in an Engineering discipline.
  • Lean Sigma Black Belt would be an advantage

 


MANAGEMENT OF TEAM


  • Direct management of senior department members, involving performance reviews and indirect management of all staff in the department.
  • Ensure that all team responsibilities are managed in an accurate, comprehensive, timely and controlled manner.
  • Responsible for ensuring the appropriate staffing and resources of the department.
  • Motivation, leadership and teambuilding of team members and the department in line with business and technical needs.
  • Ensure that all discipline matters, including time keeping and attendance, are dealt with in accordance with company policy.
