About Element 84 

Element 84 is here to help accelerate and scale projects that have a positive impact on people and the planet. We solve challenging problems across a wide range of industries, but our super power is cloud-based geospatial data processing, remote sensing, and Earth science systems. We were founded by husband-and-wife engineers in 2010 and have grown into a skilled group of practitioners building high-performance systems for the biggest corporate and government clients in the world. Our main office is located in Alexandria, VA but we support a large remote workforce from Michigan to Texas and Pennsylvania to California.

About You

You are curious about the world, are constantly learning, driven to lead (formally or informally), and have a strong work ethic. You're interested in solving impactful problems in science, medicine, and other projects that have a societal good. You can work independently or with a team, prioritize your projects, and be effective without micromanagement.

A talented software engineer is needed to support innovative tools allowing end user to discover, transform, update and improve the quality of remote sensing data in the pursuit of solving a wide range of environmental and socio-economic issues.

• ​​​​​Participate in all aspects of the software development lifecycle from user story generation, through design, development, automated testing and operational support
• Develop new feature ideas to meet the ever evolving needs of our end-users
• Continually help the team grow by sharing new ideas and industry best practices
• Suggest improvements to processes and tools to help the team be more efficient

Required Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience as a Software Engineer
• Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) including at a minimum S3, IAM, Lambda, CloudFormation and Terraform
• Proficient in Java
• Ability to work as a member of small team using the Scrum methodology
• Proven ability to prioritize and execute multiple concurrent project activities
• Firm commitment to automated testing and continuous integration
• Proponent of continuous improvement; willingness to bring new ideas to the team
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Energetic, self-motivated, team player
• Degree in a technical major, such as Computer Science or Engineering

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with machine learning / anomaly detection methods and best practices
• Experience working with development teams in an Agile methodology (preferably SCRUM or SAFe).
• Experience with Python and/or JavaScript.
• Experience with DevOps, especially automated testing and continuous integration.
• Experience or desire to work with containerized services
• Familiarity with the Atlassian tool suite (JIRA for bug tracking, Confluence for collaboration, and preferably Bamboo for continuous integration and delivery)

As required by the Colorado Equal Pay Transparency Act, Element 84, Inc. provides a reasonable range of minimum compensation for roles that may be hired in Colorado. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including, but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. For the state of Colorado only, the range of starting annual compensation for this role is $130,000.00 - $159,000.00. In addition, Element 84 may pay annual performance bonuses.
