JOB LOCATION:  Can be either Merrimack, NH or Cambridge, MA 

In this role the Sr. Electrical Engineer will lead new product electrical/electronic development for complex medical device instrumentation systems, such as those which provide advanced in vitro diagnostics.

Job Description

  1. Responsible for carrying out specific project responsibilities as part of larger program objectives involved in the design and development of products, equipment, or processes.  Consults with higher level engineering personnel to resolve more complex design alternatives. Utilizes electrical and electronic design tools such as schematic capture and FPGA/CPLD/VHDL tools. Reviews and implements design for manufacturing (DFM) and design for test (DFT) objectives.
  2. Responsible for estimating effort and duration of specific tasks on a program. 
  3. Responsible for management of tasks to the estimated effort and duration on an assigned project and communicating completeness, schedule conflicts, resource needs, etc. to the program manager and/or lead engineer. 
  4. Participate actively in the development of requirements, specifications, block diagrams, schematics, FPGAs/CPLDs, simulations (where applicable), assembly drawings, cable harnesses, bills of material and material costing. Prepares sub-system performance specifications.
  5. Determine design feasibility, evaluate and select optimum design alternatives. Collaborate with the project team to solve technical problems, design conflicts, manage risks (technical and hazards), debug/test, and support the customer.
  6. Conduct experiments/testing to evaluate operating characteristics of products or processes.
  7. Prepare engineering specifications for purchases.  Work with vendors on PCB layout, fabrication and other design/test activities.
  8. Evaluate engineering prototypes and translate experimental results into design criteria and specifications.
  9. Provide input to engineering project plans and maintain liaison with other departments in the organization.
  10. Working actively with customers to understand product requirements and regulatory requirements.
  11. Prepare reports of field tests, start‑ups or installations as required and write technical instructions. On a project or on-going basis, supervise the work of other engineering personnel – primarily technicians.
  12. Support the manufacturing process in sustaining engineering activities and resolving design problems.
  13. Participate in proposals for new projects.
  14. Contribute to process improvements.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent scientific discipline with 5 or more years of related experience, preferrably with medical devices or motion control products.

 

Incumbents must possess intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields. 

 

Must be able to work in a multidisciplinary team environment. 

 

Must be self-motivated.
