Job Description

MAJOR JOB OBJECTIVES

This is the second level Team Leader position with full program and supervisory responsibilities for multiple, small-to-medium size programs or a major subset of a larger program conducted under limited supervision of a Manager.  Hold financial accountability for the program and maintain customer satisfaction by ensuring the manufacture of quality products delivered within budget and on or ahead of schedule.  Supervise production operations and personnel for the assembly of precision components, subassemblies, complex parts or finished goods based on established methods and prints involving a variety of specialized techniques, equipment and skills.  Ensure positive communication and employee relations and the consistent application of company policies.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Under limited supervision of a Manager, is accountable for all program leadership and supervisory responsibilities for a small to medium size program or a major subset of a larger program.   Lead the functional team(s) supporting assigned program(s) to achieve production and customer schedules and the manufacture of quality products within cost and schedule requirements.  Ensure technical, internal/vendor quality, financial, and production metrics are accurately measured and drive the resolution of issues.  Ensure compliance with contract terms. Assist Buyer/Planners with production scheduling and cost approval. 
  • Prepare proposals including profit projections, risk analysis and risk avoidance recommendations.  Prepare schedules, manpower requirements and staffing plans. 
  • Primary interface with customer or customer representatives on program matters.  Effectively communicate program status, negotiate issues and maintain positive relations.
  • Proactively identify problems, their root cause and recommend (or identify and lead team to recommend) suitable solution(s) to management.  Drive the implementation of improvements to remedy issue.
  • Expand or maintain knowledge of state-of-the-art manufacturing practices like lean, DFT etc. though personal study, seminars and networking.  Recommend proven, world-class manufacturing practices to senior management. Champion those initiatives approved by management internally throughout the organization and externally to the customer. 
  • Drive cross-functional teams to implement continuous improvement projects in lean manufacturing and appropriate quality standards/certifications.
  • Interview and select subordinates including in some cases Team Leader I position(s).  Establish work assignments and supervise personnel who assemble and or test complicated products based on established methods and or prints and involving a variety of specialized techniques, equipment and skills. Define training and development requirements and ensure the appropriate training of personnel.  Regularly provide constructive, verbal and written, performance feedback.   Proactively correct performance deficiencies using the Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) process through all the required steps, including out-processing employee if necessary.
  • Supervise the timely and accurate reporting of labor and production data. Monitor labor and expense budgets and institute necessary cost controls to meet company’s profit goal on assigned programs.
  • Prepare and conduct presentations to senior management and external representatives.
  • Ensure adherence to federal and state laws and company policies and procedures including: Human Resources, labor, safety and housekeeping practices, etc.

 

Qualifications

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Associate’s degree (Bachelor’s preferred) in a technical or business discipline and 4 - 6 years’ related demonstrated supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  Lean Manufacturing work experience and Certification desired.  Demonstrated effective leadership ability and business acumen.  Requires strong inter-personal, written and verbal communication, and negotiation skills.  Experience developing and conducting effective skills training and other presentations.  Basic knowledge of computer applications including MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
