Job Description
As a Civil Cadet Drafter in our Urban Transport team at Egis, you will learn to prepare civil and transport infrastructure drawings for local government, state agency and private clients across Queensland. Our projects include road upgrades, intersections and roundabouts, active transport and shared pathways, line marking and signage, and the drainage and civil works that go with them. This is an entry-level role for someone who is studying, or about to start studying, and drafting. You will work alongside experienced drafters and engineers who will support your training while you build real project experience.
With your mentor's guidance, you will:
- Prepare civil drawings in AutoCAD for roads, intersections, shared pathways and drainage.
- Draft general arrangement, typical section, line marking, signage and construction detail plans.
- Produce longitudinal sections, cross sections and drainage plans from engineers' designs.
- Incorporate survey information, utility data and design mark-ups into drawings.
- Prepare drawing packages for preliminary, detailed design and Issued for Construction (IFC) stages.
- Update and maintain drawing registers, title blocks, revisions and project documentation.
- Check that drawings meet council and TMR drafting standards, Austroads, Australian Standards and Egis drafting procedures.
- Support engineers and project managers with design revisions and project documentation.
- Attend site visits and inspections with the team to understand how designs are built.
- Take part in team meetings, training and the development of our drafting standards and templates
Qualifications
No previous drafting experience is required. We welcome applications from students currently enrolled in, or about to start, a Certificate, Diploma or Degree in drafting, civil engineering or a related discipline. You will also have:
- An interest in roads, transport and civil infrastructure
- Some exposure to AutoCAD, 12d Model, Civil 3D or similar software through study or personal projects, or a willingness to learn
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
- Good attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work
- Good written and verbal communication skills, and a willingness to ask questions
- Strong organisation skills and the ability to manage your own tasks within a team
