Job Description

Position Overview

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will lead the supervision and inspection of all mechanical works during the construction phase, ensuring compliance with the approved design, project specifications, authority requirements, and quality standards. The role requires significant experience in theme parks, attractions, themed entertainment developments, and interior design projects, with a strong understanding of the unique MEP requirements associated with immersive environments, show buildings, themed facilities, and guest experience areas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise all mechanical construction activities, including HVAC, plumbing, drainage, firefighting, fuel systems, Gas systems, and specialty mechanical installations.
  • Ensure mechanical works are executed in accordance with IFC drawings, project specifications, approved shop drawings, and contract requirements.
  • Review and provide comments on contractor submissions, including shop drawings, material submittals, method statements, and technical queries.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to verify compliance with quality standards, design intent, and applicable codes and regulations.
  • Monitor installation of HVAC systems serving themed environments, attractions, show buildings, special effects areas, and guest facilities.
  • Coordinate mechanical interfaces with architectural, interior design, theming, structural, electrical, and specialist systems.
  • Review and assess contractor proposals related to value engineering, constructability, and alternative technical solutions.
  • Supervise testing, commissioning, TAB (Testing, Adjusting & Balancing), integrated systems testing, and final handover activities.
  • Ensure mechanical systems supporting themed attractions and special effects are installed and commissioned in accordance with operational requirements.
  • Participate in technical meetings with the Client, Contractor, Operators, Designers, and Specialty Vendors.
  • Review and resolve site non-conformances, design conflicts, and construction issues.
  • Verify that life safety systems, smoke management systems, clean agent systems, and mechanical fire protection interfaces meet project and authority requirements.
  • Prepare inspection reports, technical assessments, progress reports, and recommendations.
  • Support authority approvals, testing, and inspections with relevant stakeholders.

    Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
    • Professional Engineering registration or membership in a recognized engineering institution is preferred.
    • Minimum 15 years of post-graduate experience, including at least 5 years in construction supervision consultancy roles.
    • Proven experience in major mixed-use, hospitality, entertainment, leisure, or themed projects.
    • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems design, construction, testing, commissioning, and operational requirements.
    • Experience with UAE authority requirements and international mechanical engineering standards.
    • Excellent communication, coordination, and report-writing skills.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Revit, and BIM-based project delivery.

    Additional Information

    • Experience working on major projects in the UAE, preferably Abu Dhabi.
    • Thorough knowledge of UAE construction practices, authority regulations, and international building codes.
    • Excellent communication, coordination, and report-writing skills.
    • Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, BIM workflows, and Microsoft Office applications.
