Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our port and terminal operations team in Kuwait City, Kuwait. In this pivotal role, you will oversee the mechanical systems and equipment that are critical to our port's daily operations. You will lead a team of engineers and technicians while ensuring optimal performance, safety, and efficiency across all mechanical infrastructure. This position offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on one of the region's key maritime facilities.

  • Design, develop, and implement mechanical systems and equipment solutions for port and terminal operations, including cranes, conveyors, loading systems, and related infrastructure
  • Conduct detailed technical analyses and troubleshooting of mechanical equipment to identify issues and recommend corrective actions
  • Oversee the maintenance, repair, and lifecycle management of all mechanical equipment to ensure operational reliability and minimize downtime
  • Lead and supervise a team of mechanical engineers and technicians, providing technical guidance, performance feedback, and professional development opportunities
  • Manage capital and maintenance budgets, ensuring cost-effective resource allocation while maintaining equipment performance standards
  • Develop and enforce safety protocols and compliance procedures in accordance with international maritime standards and local regulations
  • Collaborate with operations, procurement, and external vendors to optimize equipment performance and manage vendor relationships
  • Utilize CAD software and other engineering tools to create technical drawings, specifications, and documentation
  • Conduct regular equipment inspections and implement preventive maintenance programs to enhance operational efficiency
  • Analyze operational data and recommend process improvements to increase productivity and reduce operational costs
  • Ensure all mechanical systems meet environmental and safety standards specific to port terminal operations

Qualifications

  • Minimum 8+ years of professional experience as a Mechanical Engineer, with at least 5 years in port, terminal, or heavy industrial equipment operations
  • Proven expertise in designing and maintaining large-scale mechanical systems and equipment used in port/terminal environments
  • Strong proficiency with CAD software and engineering design tools
  • Comprehensive knowledge of port equipment including ship loaders, cranes, conveyor systems, and material handling equipment
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing technical teams and supervising engineering staff
  • Solid understanding of mechanical principles, thermodynamics, and equipment lifecycle management
  • Knowledge of international maritime safety standards, regulations, and compliance requirements
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical issues
  • Excellent project management capabilities with experience managing multiple initiatives simultaneously
  • Proficiency in budget management and cost analysis
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across departments
  • Preferred: Experience with automation systems and continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma)
  • Preferred: Familiarity with vendor management and procurement processes
  • Preferred: Experience with equipment performance monitoring and predictive maintenance systems
