Job Description
Senior Municipal Engineer responsible for leading roadway and municipal infrastructure design initiatives within Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The role sits within a municipal engineering team supporting delivery of transportation and civil infrastructure projects across provincial highways and local municipal road networks, operating in a hybrid work environment.
The position covers preliminary and detailed design phases for major infrastructure projects, including freeways, urban and rural roadways, interchanges, and intersections. Responsibilities include integration of multi-disciplinary inputs such as watermain systems, stormwater and sanitary services, utility coordination, and drainage design, within a consulting engineering delivery framework aligned with provincial and municipal standards.
The ideal candidate is a licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with 10+ years of experience in municipal and highway engineering, including demonstrated exposure to MTO and municipal projects, and proven capability in detailed roadway design and project coordination.
- Reporting to the Manager of Municipal Engineering, the Sr. Municipal Engineer will be responsible for supporting the overall success of Traditional Municipal Engineering business in Canada for Egis Canada Ltd.
- Acting as a Municipal engineer for both provincial highways, local Municipal Roadways in both preliminary and detail design components of major projects.
- Lead and Manage the civil roadway components of major projects from inception to completion (this could include, but is not limited to, highway facilities ranging from freeways, urban and rural multi-lane and two-lane facilities, interchanges, and intersections. These elements would also include incorporating data from other disciplines including watermain, storm and sanitary services/mains, as well as supporting wet and dry utilities and drainage improvements).
- Providing technical guidance, support, and oversight to junior engineers and technical staff working on your projects.
- Preparing technical reports, contract documents, design drawings, quantity estimates, and cost estimates.
- Creating and reviewing / performing quality control checks on plans, profiles, and design quantities in Civil 3D/InRoads/Open Roads Design format.
- Completing initial site inspections/field work for design assignments.
- Maintaining positive client relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Keeping current on the latest design tools and aids in CAD/civil 3D / Microstation / InRoads / Open Roads Design in consultation with senior CAD staff.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in municipal and highway engineering design.
- Demonstrated experience with MTO and/or municipal infrastructure projects.
- Proven capability in detailed roadway design and engineering deliverables.
- Strong knowledge of highway engineering standards, policies, and regulatory frameworks.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, InRoads, and OpenRoads Designer.
- Experience within a consulting engineering environment.
- Valid driver’s license with access to a registered and insured vehicle.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and technical reporting skills.
Assets
- Experience on large-scale multidisciplinary transportation infrastructure projects.
- Direct involvement with interchange design, freeway systems, or complex urban corridors.
- Familiarity with utility coordination and drainage design integration.
- Experience mentoring technical teams or leading design packages
