Job Description

Egis Engineering Ireland is seeking to appoint a Senior Planning & Environmental Consultant to join our expanding Planning and Environmental team.

***This role can also be based in Cork, Limerick or Castlebar and offers a hybrid working model***

Based in Ireland, this role will be central to the delivery of large-scale and strategic development projects for both public and private sector clients. The successful candidate will contribute to projects across a range of sectors, including transportation, renewable energy, infrastructure, urban development, and water.

You will work collaboratively with our multidisciplinary engineering, design, and environmental teams to provide high-quality planning and environmental advice, manage complex consenting processes, and lead the preparation of planning applications and Environmental Impact Assessment Reports (EIARs) in accordance with Irish planning legislation and best practice.

Key Responsibilities

We are interested in hearing from passionate and proactive professionals who can demonstrate experience in the following areas:

  • Leading and supporting the preparation, coordination, and management of development consents, compliance documentation, and planning strategies for large-scale or strategic projects including transportation, water and energy.
  • Preparing and submitting planning applications, and planning reports for projects across multiple sectors.
  • Providing strategic planning and environmental advice to clients, including consenting pathways, policy compliance, and sustainability considerations.
  • Contributing to and supporting the design and master planning process, working closely with architects, engineers, and environmental specialists.
  • Managing and coordinating multidisciplinary teams, ensuring the integration of planning, design, and environmental inputs.
  • Liaising with planning authorities, An Coimisiún Pleanála, County Councils, and other statutory and regulatory bodies.
  • Engaging with stakeholders and public consultation processes, contributing to effective communication and transparent project delivery.
  • Preparing high-quality reports, statements, and documentation to support planning submissions and client deliverables.
  • Mentoring junior team members and contributing to the continuous improvement of planning and environmental practice within Egis.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Minimum of a Level 8 or Level 9 qualification (or equivalent) in Planning and Sustainable Development, or a related discipline.
  • Chartered Planner (IPI, RTPI, or equivalent), or actively working towards chartership.
  • Minimum of 6 years’ professional experience in planning and environmental consultancy, ideally involving large-scale or strategic developments.
  • Strong understanding of Irish planning and environmental legislation, policy and consenting procedures.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing and submitting planning applications, EIARs, and planning statements for both public and private sector clients.
  • Proven ability to manage complex multidisciplinary projects, ensuring quality and timely delivery.
  • Strong analytical, technical writing, and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong organisational and project management capabilities, with the ability to work to critical deadlines.
  • Self-motivated, collaborative and committed to maintaining an inclusive and supportive workplace culture.

Desirable:

  • Prior involvement in the design and consenting process for large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Experience leading public consultation and stakeholder engagement activities.
  • Strong interest in sustainability, climate adaptation and environmental policy development.
