Job Description

About the Role

As a mechanical designer you will be responsible for supporting the design and assessment of building mechanical systems and components. The role involves collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful implementation and operation of mechanical designs. Key responsibilities include conducting research, analyzing data, and performing technical calculations under the guidance of senior engineering staff. To be successful, you will combine technical expertise with a passion for continuous learning to drive engineering projects from concept to completion. The role requires an in-office presence a minimum of 3 days per week.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performing heating and cooling load calculations and supporting the selection of appropriate HVAC systems;
  • Sizing and laying out ductwork and piping systems 
  • Creating detailed 2D drawings in AutoCAD and 3D models in Autodesk Revit 
  • Developing and optimizing internal calculators and tools to streamline engineering design processes
  • Collaborating with equipment suppliers to obtain technical data and equipment selection
  • Attending meetings with clients and contractors as required to support project objectives and service delivery
  • Preparing written technical reports, design sketches, and drawing mark-ups
  • Balancing multiple tasks across projects of varied size and complexity
  • Engaging in continuous professional development and maintaining a proactive approach to learning new industry standards and technologies;
  • Performing other duties as required

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Expertise in AutoCAD 2D and Revit is highly desirable
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in building mechanical systems engineering based on Ontario industry standards;
  • Knowledge of HVAC systems, plumbing systems, fire detection, suppression and safety systems, electrical supply and distribution systems, and lighting systems;
  • Familiarity with the Ontario Building Code, the National Fire Code, and the Ontario Electrical Code;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.  Qualified candidates must be able to clearly and concisely converse with the project team, both internally and externally;
  • Organization skills including maintenance of paper and electronic files;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite;
  • G class driver’s license and access to own vehicle on a daily basis.
  • Candidates selected for interviews may need to complete a written HVAC/Mechanical engineering knowledge test
