Job Description
Within the Group’s Legal, Ethics, and Compliance Department (DJE&C), you will be the primary contact for our operational teams in subsidiaries and participate in securing the company’s risks by advising and assisting operational teams with their legal issues.
Reporting to the Legal Director for the EUROPE-AFRICA region and working closely with all operational components of this region, you will, together with a team of lawyers based in France and abroad (United Kingdom, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Ukraine, Morocco), carry out the following main missions:
In Africa and in European countries where a local DJE&C team is not already established:
- Analysis of contractual documents and related risks, where applicable jointly with the Contract Management department or Contract Managers based in the Region/Business Line, within the framework of tenders, direct consultations, negotiated contracts with public and private clients, possibly financed by international donors (AFD, WB, EBRD, AFDB, etc.).
- Assistance with negotiations of all types of contracts (project management, Owner’s Representative, Consultancy and Engineering, Independent Checking Engineer, Project Management Office, Design and Build, Turnkeys, Project Management-Construction Management) under local/FIDIC/NEC/JCT/PPL contractual environments, etc.
- Drafting legal opinions and consultations.
- Preparation, analysis, and negotiation of consortium agreements, project joint ventures, subcontracting.
- Assistance to operational teams in daily contract management of construction sites (execution, acceptance, guarantees, subcontracting, claims and compensation requests, etc.).
- Management of pre-litigation, litigation, and claims in relation with the company’s lawyers/experts/insurers.
- Drafting legal documents and notes, providing training to operational teams.
Qualifications
You hold a postgraduate degree in business law (or international contract law) with a good knowledge of private and public law.
You have at least 10 years of experience (or 7 years after a successful minimum 3-year experience as a lawyer) as a corporate lawyer in an international environment, ideally in the technical engineering, construction, or industrial sectors.
