Job Description

As the Wellington Transport Lead, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and growing our Transport presence in the region. Reporting to the New Zealand Transport Director, you will drive strategic growth, lead and support a talented team, and provide senior technical leadership across a pipeline of transport projects.

This role centres on three key areas of focus:

1. Market Leadership & Growth

Lead the presence of our central transport business by strengthening client relationships, driving business development, and building our regional market position.

2. Team Leadership & Development

Provide mentorship, guidance, and support to the team, ensuring they have strong leadership presence, growth pathways, and support. Your role will be to cultivate a high‑performing, connected, and supported team culture.

3. Technical Excellence & Direction

Bring senior technical leadership and stewardship across transport offerings, ideally chartered or working towards chartership with Engineering NZ.

This is a broad, impactful senior leadership position with significant scope to shape, grow, and ultimately own the success of the Wellington transport business while being supported by existing clients and active work.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the strategic growth and positioning of the Wellington Transport team, strengthening client relationships and developing new business opportunities.
  • Represent Egis externally, partnering with key public and private sector clients.
  • Provide senior technical oversight and review across the project lifecycle from early project planning, delivery and design.
  • Mentor, guide, and grow a team of engineers and technicians and transport specialists, providing leadership, development, and technical support.
  • Collaborate across Egis’ multi‑disciplinary Business Units to pursue integrated opportunities.
  • Leadership on projects and programmes with key clients, ensuring delivery excellence across scope, resources, risks, and financials.
  • Build a strong, positive team culture that supports technical depth, innovation, and career development.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have 10+ years' professional experience in the transportation sector. You will also have proven people leadership skills, passion and dedication to working closely with clients to grow and develop your team.

In addition to the above you will also have:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Civil or Transport Engineering.
  • Chartered status, in lieu of this, ability to obtain and/or working towards chartership with Engineering NZ is mandatory. 
  • Sound working knowledge of technical standards and design guidelines
  • Proven ability to build client relationships and contribute to business development.
  • Demonstrated people leadership skills with a passion for supporting team growth.
  • Proven project leadership capability across transportation projects.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem‑solving skills.
