Job Description

  • Define and implement a strategy to develop, and deliver design transportation activity with accountability for order intake/sales, pipeline, project delivery, financial performance, design team development and management
  • Development and implementation of a departmental strategy and plan, aligned with the strategic goals of the company and market domain
  • Maintain relationship and regular contact with Clients, Partners, Subcontractors -  accurately identifying needs and effectively finding and negotiating solutions to meet them. Represent the wider company effectively and introduce other staff.
  • Develop business, by maintaining awareness of current issues and trends in the market, anticipating projects. Oversee the identification, preparation and/or negotiation of commercial offers and contracts (eg strategy, financials, technical  aspects) - balancing the need for a competitive bid whilst achieving targeted levels of profitability
  • Ensure that project and departmental budgets are accurately forecast, monitored and regularly reviewed (including also equipment, training, resources). Also responsible for workload planning, payment approvals etc
  • Manage, recruit and develop human resources to meet the needs of the department, ensuring well-being and professional development of staff and supporting them in their career path within Egis by providing feedback and guidance, opportunities for growth and professional development. Effectively communicate goals and performance targets, engage others in achieving these, monitor performance and address issues of non-performance in a timely manner
  • Ensure successful delivery and customer satisfaction of all projects in the department, in-line with company processes, including performance and risk management. Ensure work is delivered to a high standard and within budget and in agreed timescale
  • Understand and oversee the design production needs and priorities and ensure that they are allocated and delivered accordingly.
  • Coordinate with other departments of the Egis Group as necessary (eg to facilitate transfer of knowledge/experience)
  • Be an active member of the company management team, driving the company success and contributing to continuous improvement including operational and corporate functions an in-line with group and local procedures and processes

Qualifications

 

  • At least 15 years of proven experience in transportation design (Roads & Rail), experience in project management in an international company in the field of infrastructure design
  • Prior experience in managing teams (>10 people) including the ability lead and motivate people and to transmit knowledge and expertise
  • Experience with managing international contracts (including public procurement laws, international contractual standards such as FIDIC, NEC, etc)
  • Strong sense of responsibility, high standards of ethical behaviour and ability to work independently and take decisions.
  • Provide solutions to problems, based on evidence and justification and be able to simplify and cut through complexity as necessary.
  • Effective management style able to provide the co-ordination required to formulate and motivate teams, even when accepting compromise
  • Flexibility and adaptability, including the ability to work under stress and extended hours and manage priorities and risks at high speed
  • Good skills in organising, scheduling, planning, able to delegate tasks and responsibilities where appropriate
  • Very good spoken and written English with ability to write concise, well-structured and clear reports summarising complex information in plain English. Confident, clear and polite style of verbal communication one-to-one or in a group, including ‘active’ listening
  • Civil Engineering degree
  • Strong computer skills (proficiency in recognised design software and Microsoft applications).
  • Fluent in English language
