Job Description

The Health Promotion, Practice, and Innovation (HPPI) Portfolio, within EDC’s US Division has an opening for a Research Scientist. The HPPI portfolio includes a range of projects that aim to promote social and emotional well-being, promote mental and behavioral health, and prevent risky behaviors such as substance misuse, violence, and suicide.

We are seeking a Research Scientist to join our team. The Research Scientist will lead and direct evaluation activities for a large, federally-funded project focused on preventing suicide primarily among Veterans. This position requires expertise in systems-level evaluation design and complex logic modeling that integrates multiple related programmatic initiatives led by several project partners. This is an unparalleled opportunity to create and develop a landmark prototype Veteran-informed, data-driven, evidence-based integrated care model focused on preventing suicide and addressing the complex health and mental health needs of Veterans across the country.

This is a full-time, 30 month project, however, EDC has an excellent retention rate and avenues for you to identify work on other projects of interest as projects end. This position is open to US-based telecommuters.

The ideal candidate knows the Zero Suicide framework and has experience with comprehensive suicide prevention or collective action models, and clinical suicide prevention service delivery. Additionally, they possess expertise in complex evaluation and logic model design, developing methodologically sound questionnaires, adapting evaluation instruments (retaining adequate reliability and validity), creating fidelity checklists for clinical care intervention delivery, mixed methods evaluation, and selecting and applying appropriate statistical analysis to a complex evaluation framework. This Research Scientist will work swiftly, thoroughly, and independently; proactively lead, manage, and communicate (both verbally and in writing); and effectively lead multi-partner convenings. This is a position for an experienced researcher who wants to join a talented team of individuals who are nationally recognized suicide prevention leaders. Experience working with VA healthcare settings is also a priority.

You will:  

  • Lead a team of researchers to design and conduct a multi-site evaluation
  • Work closely with the Project Director to achieve overall project goals
  • Provide expertise on qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods research design and instrumentation
  • Develop and implement evaluation tools
  • Supervise at least two Research Associates
  • Oversee data collection and analysis 
  • Exercise leadership in project management
  • Synthesize concepts and recommendations
  • Communicate results to diverse audiences, including professionals, civic communities, and government agencies

Qualifications

Education:

  • Ph.D. degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

Skills & Experience:

  • 9–12 years related experience, including 3+ years prior project management or program development experience, supervision of other researchers
  • extensive experience with computer applications (including databases), psychometric or statistical measurement techniques, and Internet research
  • Publication record
  • Business Development with a successful funding track record
  • Demonstrable leadership skills and ability to demonstrate  comfort, confidence, skill, and flexible thinking in communicating with C-suite leaders

This position offers an anticipated annual base salary range of approximately $ 87,000 to $108,000.  Salary offers are made based on market analysis and internal equity.
