Job Description

The Center for Children and Technology (CCT) is looking for a full time Research Assistant II. CCT is a research and development center within the Education Development Center (EDC) and is based in New York City. Founded in 1980, CCT investigates how technology can influence and enhance teaching and learning across a wide range of educational settings. CCT conducts basic, applied, causal and formative research, working in collaboration with educational, corporate, government and research institutions. CCT also designs and develops prototype software and instructional resources that support engaged, active learning.  We offer a dynamic and highly collaborative work environment that seeks to answer challenging and practical questions about teaching and learning and is centered on teachers and students and the tools that can help create equitable and successful learning environments.

EDC’s Center for Children and Technology is seeking a full-time Research Assistant II who is bilingual in English and Spanish to support studies that explore the role of digital media in young children’s learning and in multi-generational learning settings, with a focus on STEM, computational thinking, early literacy, and future careers and jobs. The Research Assistant II will assist with quantitative and qualitative data collection, data entry, data cleaning, database preparation, and data analysis in SPSS, and support the implementation of research studies. The work will include collecting and analyzing survey data, direct child assessments, and qualitative data, but other data types may be included. The role also includes providing general support for participant recruitment and study implementation across multiple sites. In addition, we are looking for a team member who will support instrument development, tracking of participant engagement in study activity, and other research tasks that create a positive experience for study participants, which include formal and informal educators, parents and young children.

Under general management guidance, the Research Assistant (II) will have the following responsibilities: 

  • organize and maintain clear and consistent records for study activities including recruitment and participant data 
  • support Internal Review Board submissions and records  
  • support study preparation tasks including technology preparation 
  • order and organize supplies and materials for study implementation 
  • collect and clean data
  • coordinate administrative and logistical tasks, with internal and external partners 
  • travel for data collection or to participate in dissemination of study findings when appropriate, may include weekends  

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education & experience

Skills & Experience:

  • 1-3 years related research, education or administrative coordination, requiring experience with computer applications (including databases), Internet research, Social Media
  • Experience using culturally relevant frameworks in research

Preferred Education, Skills & Experience: 

  • Master’s degree or equivalent combination of training & education in a related field
  • Bilingual speaker, Spanish/English or other language
  • Knowledge of SPSS, Excel and data analysis techniques

This position offers an anticipated annual base salary range of approximately $52,000 to $69,000.  Salary offers are made based on market analysis and internal equity.
