YEFED will strengthen the capacity of Guyana’s TVET system to prepare young people for employment and self-employment in important emerging sectors, including the digital and low-carbon economies, including through innovative training programs designed with industry practitioners.

Position Description

Under the supervision of the Project Lead, the Curriculum & Training Manager will lead overall technical oversight and guidance for the program’s training content and delivery.

They will work closely with project curriculum partners (including NGO partners and training institutions) to adapt existing curricula and develop learning models that meet the needs of youth, employers, and program objectives. They will oversee training delivery, manage trainers, collaborate with training institute instructional teams, ensure the quality of teaching and learning materials and that all learning experiences apply best practices in learner-centered instruction and work-based learning. They will build the capacity of local training organizations and institutions to design and deliver employment-focused, work-based training programs. The Curriculum & Training Manager will work with the program team including technical specialists to develop dynamic, in-person learning experiences at program convenings.

Essential responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Lead a collaborative curriculum development and adaptation process bringing together key program partners including private sector employers in coordination with home office technical assistance staff.
  • Partner with and build the capacity of local training institutions to design and implement learner-centered, work-based instructional approaches to technical skills training with input from employers and industry.
  • Oversee delivery of the curricula, manage trainers, ensure the quality of teaching and learning materials and that all learning experiences apply best practices in learner-centered instruction Oversee training scheduling and implementation of learner assessment protocols.
  • Develop dynamic in-person learning experiences at the convenings in collaboration with the program team.
  • Work closely with other senior program personnel and counterparts within the host education institution and organizations
  • Ensure approaches that promote gender equality, youth engagement, and social inclusion are integrated into programming and effectively implemented; regularly identify and apply learning, refining approaches as needed to close gender gaps, involve youth in decision making, and promote inclusion across project activities.
  • Manage the development of materials/tools and conduct training sessions for program participants and trainers.
  • Collaborate with the M&E team to ensure timely collection of information including baseline and endline assessments of learning outcomes, employment, self-employment and other indicators.
  • Contribute to ad hoc, monthly, quarterly, annual and other reports.
  • Contribute to project’s activities planning. 
  • Perform other tasks as required by the Project Lead.

Please note: This position is not eligible for relocation or posting allowances and the salary will be paid in Guyanese Dollars.

The candidate for the position of Curriculum & Training Manager shall have at a minimum the following qualifications: 

Qualifications

Education:

Master’s degree

Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum of seven years of experience in youth-related program design, activity implementation, and technical service provision.
  • Experience with (or demonstrated understanding of) learner-centered, work-based learning approaches. Understanding of technical vocational training approaches preferred.
  • At least five years of experience in educational design, curriculum development and training delivery.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of capacity development and professional development of staff, local partners and government counterparts.
  • Experience working in and/or demonstrated understanding of sustainable development and low-carbon sectors desired.
  • Experience leading activities that reduce gender and social inclusion barriers in programs greatly desired.
  • Demonstrable experience with inclusive education, designing and managing education and/or youth development programs, with a focus on youth employment required.
  • Experience working within TVET institutions within Guyana desired.
  • Excellent leadership, administrative, management, presentation, reporting, and communication (both oral and written) skills and the ability to implement projects with diverse subject matter.
  • Ability to manage multiple teams and complete numerous tasks with a high degree of organization.

Language

Fluency in English (reading, writing, listening, speaking) required.
