EDC’s Health Promotion, Practice, and Innovation (HPPI) portfolio includes a range of projects that aim to promote social and emotional wellbeing, promote mental and behavioral health, and to prevent risky behaviors such as substance misuse, violence, and suicide. Our project beneficiaries range from state agencies (e.g., state departments of public health and education), community-based organizations, school districts, and American Indian and Alaska Native communities. Our funders include federal agencies, state agencies, foundations, community-based organizations, and school districts. Our work includes trainings and professional development opportunities, technical assistance and consultation, and research and evaluation. 

The HPPI Portfolio has an opening for a Casual Senior Tribal Technical Assistance Advisor, reporting to the US Director of Community Suicide Prevention.  

The Senior Tribal Technical Assistance Advisor will provide expert input across one or more substance misuse and suicide prevention training and technical assistance (TTA) projects at EDC, including advising on design for trainings, events, and communities of practice, as well as serving as a resource to support culturally responsive TTA to Tribes and Tribal organizations across the US.

The Senior Tribal Technical Assistance Advisor will support multiple EDC substance misuse and suicide prevention TTA projects through expert input and guidance, including:

• Support for design of Communities of Practice and other virtual events supporting Tribal prevention programs and initiatives;
• Providing expert consultation to internal staff and partners on cultural and jurisdictional issues impacting substance misuse and suicide prevention in Tribal communities;
• Designing sessions and agendas for in-person TTA events for Tribes and Tribal organizations;
• Providing direct expert consultation and TA for select grantee and other Tribal prevention programs as needed;
• Presenting and/or facilitating virtual and/or in-person sessions to build Tribal prevention capacity and infrastructure;
• Other duties as assigned and available

This position requires educational achievement; excellent writing skills; demonstrable initiative, creativity, and flexibility; ability to work independently and effectively in groups; and strong interpersonal & organizational skills. Specific requirements:

Education:

• Bachelors degree in public health, mental health, or related field required

Other skills/experience:

• At least 15 years of experience in Tribal public health, Tribal mental health, or related fields required
• Strong written and verbal communication skills required
• Demonstrated ability to design TTA services for diverse Tribes and Tribal organizations required
• Background in substance misuse prevention, suicide prevention, and/or crisis services required
• Ability to manage time and successfully work on multiple projects/tasks at once required
• Ability to work on a team and independently without close oversight required
• Ability to travel (one trip to Washington, DC, anticipated in 2023) required

Preferred education and skills/experience:

• Masters degree in public health, mental health, or related field preferred
• Understanding of adult learning principles and training/event design strongly preferred
• Excellent facilitation and presentation skills strongly preferred
• Experience convening Tribal and State partners strongly preferred

EDC casual employees generally work as needed. A casual position receives statutory benefits of Social Security contributions, Medicare contributions, unemployment insurance, worker’s compensation insurance and sick leave. A casual position ends when work is complete. The position is open to US-based telecommuters.
