Project Description 

Opportunity 2.0 (O2), funded by USAID, will strengthen second-chance education programs for vulnerable out-of-school youth in the Philippines. Opportunity 2.0 will collaborate and work with national and local systems supporting youth in order to provide 180,000 youth with the skills and opportunities to improve their education, employment, and livelihood outcomes.

Achieving this vision will require a multi-faceted, systems-strengthening approach that aligns the formal education system, markets, and youth “sub-systems” at the regional levels. This will be achieved by providing experienced project personnel embedded in government departments; further aligning the input of technical assistance; and maximizing opportunities to bring together the respective stakeholders to identify and refine synergies and transition pathways for youth, particularly between Department of Education (DepEd)’s Alternative Learning System (ALS) program and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

Job Description

The Office Custodian based in Cebu City will render janitorial/messenger support and entry-level clerical duties for EDC Cebu Office. S/he will be responsible for standard, regular cleaning of the entire workspace in compliance with relevant COVID-19 cleaning and sanitation guidelines. S/he will also assist the project team with messengerial tasks (shipping companies, banks, government agencies and partners). In addition, s/he will also assist with entry-level clerical support such as photocopying, scanning, filing and collating documents as requested.

Essential Functions 

Working under the supervision of the Cebu-based Administrative and Operations Officer, the Office Custodian will perform specific duties but not limited to:

  • Responsible for the overall cleaning, upkeep, and sanitation of the office in compliance with COVID-19 precautions and EDC guidelines.
  • Perform dusting, disinfecting, and polishing of highly touched surfaces and furniture.
  • Responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the pantry area and sanitizing the pantry tools.
  • Compiling a list of office supplies, consumables, and cleaning materials.
  • Ensuring that paper towels, soap, and hand sanitizers are replenished in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for floor care, performing various surface tasks, including, mopping, sweeping, and spot-cleaning of all office areas.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of employee desks and chairs by dusting, spraying, and cleaning.
  • Responsible for proper handling and disposal of trash in the office. Ensure compliance with the health and sanitary Department ordinance where the office is located on proper waste disposal and segregation.
  • Responsible for messenger services for small office parcels and packages within walking distance of the office, bank errands, and other similar tasks.
  • Liaise with government agencies to submit documents, follow-up requests and other errands, as needed.
  • Assist with entry-level clerical tasks such as photocopying, scanning, filing and collating documents as requested.
  • Carry out any other relevant tasks as requested by the supervisor.

Qualifications

Education:

  • High school diploma or relevant certification(s)/license(s)

Skills and Experience:

  • A minimum of 6 months of experience required
  • At least 3 years of relevant work experience is highly preferred
  • Detail-oriented and organized
  • Ability to work independently and effectively in groups
  • Strong interpersonal & organizational skills
  • Able to work under pressure and busy office environment
  • Knowledge of safety hazards and proper use of various cleaning and sanitizing solutions.
  • Ability to operate office equipment
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds at a time

Language:

  • Fluency in Filipino and Basic English.
