Project Description 

The goal of the Teacher Excellence Initiative (TEI) project is to improve the quality and relevance of teacher preparation in Egyptian public universities so that current and future primary school teachers have enhanced skills to increase student learning and advance the Ministry of Education and Technical Education’s (MOETE) reform. The activity will achieve this goal through the following results: 

 

  1. At least 7,500 pre-service teachers in undergraduate programs at Faculties of Education in five Egyptian universities have the skills and knowledge to apply practice-based, experiential teaching methods in the classroom. 

  1. 5,000 in-service teachers in postgraduate programs at Faculties of Education in 15 Egyptian universities apply practice-based, experiential teaching methods in the classroom. 

  1. 50 Government of Egypt personnel from the MOETE, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR), and the Supreme Council of Universities demonstrate improved capacity to jointly plan, manage, and adapt teacher education. 

Job Description

Position Description

The nature of the program demands strong technical teacher professional development, excellent programming, organizational management and communication skills, and an ability to navigate sensitive political environments. The Senior Programs Coordinator reports to the Chief of Party and has a prime responsibility for coordinating program technical activities across two result areas of Pre-Service and In-Service programming.

 

Responsibilities include

  • Liaising with Senior Pre- and In-service Technical Advisors, coordinating and ensuring alignment of programming across the two result areas.
  • The Senior Programs Coordinator will also be responsible for liaising with the TEI Capacity Building Manager to support implementation of the TEI training strategy and plan.
  • Responsible for developing workshop content and co-facilitating workshops and training along with faculty and staff at selected Faculties of Education.
  • Responsibilities will also include participating in regular pre-and in-service working group meetings with international university partners and identifying, adapting, and integrating innovative approaches to workshops, capacity building and professional development.
  • The Senior Programs Coordinator will support the COP to ensure that staff have the technical capacity and support to achieve project goals, ensure that research grant recipients are provided with capacity support as required and to ensure coordination with partner organizations for the delivery and facilitation of TEI training.
  • Prepare reports on program activities and accomplishments as required.

Qualifications

Education:

Master’s degree in a relevant field (Ph.D. degree preferred)

Skills and Experience:

  • A minimum of seven years of relevant experience with a master’s degree (PhD preferred).
  • At least three years of experience working in the Egyptian Higher Education sector.
  • At least seven years of experience in a senior leadership position in a similar project.
  • Exceptional communication skills, and the ability to quickly respond to the needs of the project to meet the goals and targets for the delivery of quality teacher education programs at selected Faculties of Education.
  • Experience managing or implementing capacity development, training, workshops is desired.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge in establishing linkages with pre- and in-service programming.
  • Experience supporting sub recipients and partner organizations to meet quality standards.
  • A deep understanding and developed relationships with actors across the higher education sector.
  • Experience working with public institutions including primary schools in coordinating and building quality teacher education programs.
  • Knowledge of and exposure to innovative approaches to strengthening higher education programs.

Language:

Fluency in English is required.

This position is located in county offices and reports to the Chief Of Party. This position will maintain close communication relationships with the technical team as well as operational staff as relevant.
