Job Description

EDC has an opening for a full-time Associate Project Director – Mental Health & Racial Equity Specialist, reporting to the Associate Director on the Trauma Recovery, Mental Health Promotion, and Violence Prevention Team. The person in this position will preferably be based in the Washington, DC metro area (US-based telecommuters will be considered). Internationally based telecommuters are not eligible for this position. All positions at EDC are subject to funding availability.

The person in this position is expected to have a substantial background in mental health assessment and treatment, racial equity and inclusion approaches in communities and experience working in non-traditional adult mental health community settings. Experience and interest working in culturally diverse and under- resourced community settings and working with law enforcement are essential.

This position will work across projects to strengthen communities and build trust among stakeholders.  Projects will definitely include working with law enforcement to help them build trust with the communities they serve, designing suicide prevention and mental wellness resources for first responders at the national and local levels, writing training curricula on mental health topics for internationally-based projects. Additional opportunities may include working with elementary schools and early childhood programs on deepening partnerships with families and community members.

The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator/collaborator/educator, an excellent writer and will bring clinical expertise in working with racially diverse communities. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, organized, and interested in managing projects as well as in offering their content expertise.

This position involves providing training and technical assistance in the form of consultation, training, and development of print and virtual resources, relationship building amongst communities and police, providing consultation on racial equity and inclusion principles and approaches, trauma-informed approaches, and mental health resilience-building. This position also involves significant project management (e.g., tracking of deliverables, creating timelines and ensuring teammates are following timelines, coordination with several colleagues to complete an assignment), and public speaking through in-person training events, online webinar and/or presentations, and conference presentations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The person in this position is expected to communicate clearly and courteously; to develop and maintain positive relationships with clients, consultants, collaborators, co-workers, field sites, and funders; and to work respectfully with EDC colleagues. The job requires adherence to EDC policies & procedures.

The Associate Project Director – Mental Health & Racial Equity Specialist:

  • Makes evidence-based recommendations of how to include concepts of racial equity across projects and all deliverables
  • Develops and delivers high quality trainings and presentations, both in person and virtually, to various audiences, including police, community groups, and domestic violence advocates
  • Works directly with law enforcement departments to build their approaches in developing community trust
  • Provides technical assistance and leads webinars, presentations, and meetings
  • Oversees design, production, and dissemination of high-profile resources including curriculum development, written resource development, and facilitation of virtual events
  • Coordinates project management & tracking of project deliverables for variety of mental health and community-building projects
  • Supports business development activities, including assisting with proposal development

Qualifications

In summation, this position requires educational achievement; excellent writing skills; demonstrable initiative, creativity, and flexibility; ability to work independently and effectively in groups; and strong interpersonal & organizational skills. Specific requirements:

  • Clinical mental health licensure preferred (MSW, LCSW, PhD)
  • Clinical mental health Bachelor’s degree, at least 5 years related experience, requiring computer competence
  • Clinical Master’s degree, at least 4 years related experience, requiring computer competence
  • 3-5 years of work experience with racially diverse communities and expertise in racial equity, specifically, required
  • Excellent writing skills required
  • Advanced communication skills. Ability to present to and communicate with internal stakeholders, groups and senior leadership as well as communicate across diverse community members, community organizations and government and law enforcement agencies required
  • Ability to own and organize individual tasks while managing and prioritizing multiple efforts required
  • Experience working with justice organizations and/or law enforcement preferred
  • 2-4 years of project management experience preferred (managing timelines, tracking deliverables and/or budgets) preferred

This position offers an anticipated annual base salary range of approximately $62,000 to $91,000. Salary offers are made based on market analysis and internal equity.
