The Health Promotion, Practice, and Innovation (HPPI) portfolio includes a range of projects that aim to promote social and emotional wellbeing, promote mental and behavioral health, and to prevent risky behaviors such as substance misuse, violence, and suicide. Our project beneficiaries range from state agencies (e.g., state departments of public health and education), community-based organizations, and school districts. Our funders include federal agencies, state agencies, foundations, community-based organizations, and school districts. Our work includes trainings and professional development opportunities, technical assistance and consultation, and research and evaluation. 

The HPPI Portfolio has two openings for contingent Senior Curriculum/Instructional Design Associates, reporting to programmatic HPPI project director. These positions are eligible to work in one of EDC’s offices and are open to U.S.-based telecommuters. Internationally based telecommuters are not eligible for these positions.

Job Description

We expect these positions to have a general focus on substance misuse prevention, suicide prevention, violence prevention, and related behavioral health concerns. Selected candidates could transition between these and other areas as business demands. All positions at EDC are subject to funding availability.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The individuals in this position are expected to communicate clearly and courteously; to develop and maintain positive relationships with clients, consultants, collaborators, co-workers, field sites, and funders; and to work respectfully with EDC colleagues. The job requires adherence to EDC policies & procedures.

Each Senior Curriculum/Instructional Design Associate provides curriculum design services, contributing further to the organization’s intellectual capital, and developing name recognition as a leader in the field; s/he initiates and executes diverse, strategic, and high-impact projects, or is responsible for particular phases of a large, very complex project, involving:

  • Research, needs assessment,  planning overall approach, strategizing, creative influence
  • Writing; editing, including for the development of online modules and courses for a wide range of users
  • Reviewing course modules and providing technical guidance to junior staff
  • Creating course modules using online course development software such as Articulate Rise or Storyline
  • Conceptualizing and leading product dissemination, evaluation, customization
  • Documenting & cataloguing
  • Maintaining records, including financial
  • Consulting with specialists and other experts
  • Developing high-visibility presentation strategies
  • Leading proposal design & development and project implementation
  • Investigating solutions to potential problems, which may result in products, programs, services or inventions;
  • Analyzing trends and identifying opportunities
  • Performing or supervising fieldwork
  • Advises, consults and collaborates with senior management and project staff to provide information on new concepts associated with expanding existing products &/or programs
  • Guides feedback exchanges; provides expertise to others
  • Expands contacts and strengthens client relations; develops business and professional relationships by communicating technical information to professional or civic communities, government agencies, “stakeholders” or institutions
  • Oversees quality and compliance
  • Oversees administrative and logistical coordination
  • Troubleshoots complex problems and coordinates solutions
  • Does on-site work (schools, etc.)
  • May provide administrative supervision or direction to junior staff
  • May advise on complex training or curriculum design projects; may lead design projects or supervise multiple events
  • Initiates or coordinates cross-Center or interdepartmental research efforts and activities
  • May travel frequently

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires educational achievement; excellent writing skills; demonstrable initiative, creativity, and flexibility; ability to work independently and effectively in groups; and strong interpersonal & organizational skills.

Specific requirements:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent combination of education & experience required
  • With Master’s degree, 7–10 years related experience in the disciplinary area, social science or public health research, education, training, curriculum design, consulting, organizational development or administrative management, including solid experience with computer applications, instructional design, and Internet research
  • Experience developing online courses/modules using course development software such as Articulate Rise or Articulate Storyline
  • Multimedia technology skills required
  • Understanding of adult learning principles and applying them to the development of engaging, interactive courses/trainings for a wide range of audiences required.
  • 1–3 years prior project management or program development experience; demonstrable leadership skills required

We prefer:

  • PhD or equivalent in a related discipline preferred, with 2–4 years related experience (as above)
  • Educational certification in a related discipline preferred
  • Some experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) preferred but not required.
