The Health Promotion, Practice, and Innovation (HPPI) portfolio includes a range of projects that aim to promote social and emotional wellbeing, promote mental and behavioral health, and to prevent risky behaviors such as substance misuse, violence, and suicide. Our project beneficiaries range from state agencies (e.g., state departments of public health and education), community-based organizations, and school districts. Our funders include federal agencies, state agencies, foundations, community-based organizations, and school districts. Our work includes trainings and professional development opportunities, technical assistance and consultation, and research and evaluation. 

The HPPI Portfolio has 3 openings for a Contingent Curriculum/Instructional Design Associate (I), reporting to programmatic HPPI project director. The position is eligible to work in one of EDC’s offices and is open to U.S.-based telecommuters. Internationally-based telecommuters are not eligible for this position." We expect these positions to have a general focus on substance misuse prevention, suicide prevention, violence prevention, and related behavioral health concerns. Selected candidates could transition between these and other areas as business demands. All positions at EDC are subject to funding availability.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The person in this position is expected to communicate clearly and courteously; to develop and maintain positive relationships with clients, consultants, collaborators, co-workers, field sites, and funders; and to work respectfully with EDC colleagues. The job requires adherence to EDC policies & procedures.

Under general management guidance, the Curriculum/Instructional Design Associate (I) participates in complex projects to provide curriculum design services and other project activities, including:

  • Research
  • Strategizing; planning for publication
  • Writing, editing including for contributing to the development of online modules and courses for a wide range of users
  • Contributing to the creation of course modules using online course development software such as Articulate Rise or Storyline
  • Conceptualizing and overseeing product testing & evaluation
  • Documenting & cataloguing
  • Maintaining records, including financial
  • Disseminating information
  • Consulting with specialists
  • Developing presentations
  • Assisting Principal Investigator with key deliverables
  • Assisting with proposal development
  • Market research
  • Analyzing trends and opportunities
  • Facilitates project teamwork and feedback exchanges
  • Coordinates contract and quality adherence
  • Coordinates administrative and logistical tasks
  • Troubleshoots complex problems, proposing initiatives and recommending or negotiating solutions
  • Provides training and guidance or administrative direction to junior staff; may supervise support staff
  • Does on-site work (schools, etc.)
  • May lead parts of a project or coordinate sections of larger projects
  • May travel frequently

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires educational achievement; excellent writing skills; demonstrable initiative, creativity, and flexibility; ability to work independently and effectively in groups; and strong interpersonal & organizational skills.

Specific requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • With Bachelor’s degree, 5–8 years related experience in the disciplinary area, social science or public health research, education, training, curriculum design, consulting, organizational development or administrative management, including experience with computer applications, instructional design, and Internet research
  • Familiarity with multimedia techniques
  • Experience contributing to the development of online courses/modules using course development software such as Articulate Rise or Articulate Storyline
  • Understanding of adult learning principles and applying them to the development of engaging, interactive courses/trainings for a wide range of audiences required.

We prefer:

  • Master’s degree or teacher certification or equivalent combination of training and education in a related field preferred
  • With Master’s degree, 3–5 years related experience (as above)
  • Educational certification in a related discipline preferred
  • Some experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) preferred but not required.
  • Some prior project leadership or supervisory experience preferred
