Job Description

The HPPI Portfolio has an opening for a Training & Technical  Assistance Specialist (II), reporting to the Senior Project Director in Chicago.

EDC’s Health Promotion, Practice, and Innovation (HPPI) portfolio has an opening for a TTA Associate II. The HPPI portfolio includes projects related to trauma, violence and injury prevention, substance misuse prevention, and mental health and suicide prevention.

The Role

The Training & Technical Assistance Associate II will support various technical assistance, evaluation, and research projects in the HPPI portfolio focused on substance misuse and overdose prevention--with  possibility of increased level of effort on additional projects.

This role supports technical assistance in the Midwest on the implementation of public health approaches and evidence-based programs, practices, and policies focused on substance misuse prevention, overdose prevention, suicide prevention, and problem gambling prevention in school and community settings.

The Training & Technical Assistance Associate II also support technical assistance and evaluation activities for a Chicago-based project that supports evaluation capacity building of substance use, recovery, and opioid overdose prevention service agencies throughout the city.

Responsibilities

The person in this position is expected to communicate clearly and courteously; to develop and maintain positive relationships with clients, consultants, collaborators, co-workers, field sites, and funders; and to work respectfully with EDC colleagues. The job requires adherence to EDC policies & procedures. Under general management guidance, the Training & Technical Assistance Associate II will primarily work on technical assistance projects and support additional evaluation projects, by conducting:

  • Training and technical assistance, including: develops instructional and coaching materials for presentations, builds knowledge and capacity of agency staff, leads dissemination of information, supports responsive and customized support for agencies, and facilitates collaborative engagement with agency staff
  • Quantitative research methods using independent judgment, including: data preparation, collection, and cleaning; statistical analyses using software; preparation and summarization of findings and data-informed recommendations; and writing and revising reports and presentations
  • Evaluation project support, including: supports the development and use of logic models; sources outcome measures and indicators; creates evaluation tools and protocols that help clients track implementation progress and quality improvements
  • Administrative and logistical project tasks that support project coordination
  • Collaboration with other staff to conduct team-based work

Qualifications

This position requires excellent communication and writing skills; demonstrable initiative, creativity, and flexibility; ability to work independently and effectively in groups; and strong interpersonal & organizational skills. Specific requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • With Bachelor’s degree, 7–10 years related experience in the disciplinary area, social science or public health research, education, training, curriculum design, consulting, organizational development or administrative management, including solid experience with computer applications, instructional design, and Internet research
  • Familiarity with multimedia techniques
  • Some prior project leadership or supervisory experience preferred
  • Experience providing technical assistance focused on program implementation or evaluation  
  • Quantitative research experience, including working independently on quantitative data cleaning and analyses using software (e.g. SPSS)
  • Excellent organizational skills and capable of taking initiative when working both in teams and independently

Preferred Experiences

  • Master’s degree, educational certification or PhD in a related field
  • With Master’s degree, 5–8 years related experience (as above) With PhD, 0–3 years related experience (as above)
  • Curriculum and instructional design, consulting, organizational development, or administrative management experience, including working with relevant computer applications for trainings
  • Stakeholder engagement or work experience with Chicago-based social service and health organizations.
  • Evaluation project experience, including reporting and dissemination with clients
