This position will be based in EDC’s Waltham headquarters and work in a Hybrid model, working some days remotely and some in the office.

 

Job Description

The STEM Workforce Success Portfolio in the US Division has an opening for a part-time Research Assistant (I), reporting to the Project Director II, in Waltham, MA. EDC is seeking an individual interested in child development, early education, and/or math education to participate in a federally funded research and development project.

The Research Assistant I is expected to communicate clearly and courteously; to develop and maintain positive relationships with clients, consultants, collaborators, co-workers, field sites, and funders; and to work respectfully with EDC colleagues. The job requires adherence to EDC policies & procedures.

Essential Functions:

  • Support participant recruitment, manage informed consents, and coordinate data collection and data collector trainings
  • Conduct data collection through observations, direct assessments, interviews, surveys, and other methods as needed
  • Create and manage project files and data files in Excel, SPSS and/or cloud-based database software program (e.g, SmartSheet or similar) including data entry and data cleaning
  • Assist with quantitative and/or qualitative analysis by tabulating and/or maintaining collected data through coding or organizing data into tables and producing visual displays of findings (graphs)  
  • Assist with report writing, presentations, and dissemination in MS Word, PowerPoint, and other collaboration tools
  • Support development and proposal preparation

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent combination of training and education) in a related field
  • Required by the state Department of Education to pass a criminal background check
  • Experience in research, or administrative coordination (including experience with computer applications, databases, and Internet research) and are detail-oriented
  • Experience conducting child assessments (preschool through first grade) or teaching in early childhood settings
  • Experience with Qualtrics (or other electronic survey software)
  • Fluency using SPSS and Excel for descriptive and inferential analyses
  • Ability to travel to research sites located locally/regionally (Brockton, MA; Lawrence, MA; and/or Woonsocket, RI)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a related field preferred
  • Individuals who are bilingual in Spanish and English are especially encouraged to apply
