Job Description

The Center for Children and Technology (CCT) is a research and development center within EDC and is based in New York City. Founded in 1980, CCT investigates how technology can influence and enhance teaching and learning across a wide range of educational settings. CCT conducts basic, applied, causal and formative research, working in collaboration with educational, corporate, government and research institutions. CCT also designs and develops prototype software and instructional resources that support engaged, active learning. CCT offers a dynamic and highly collaborative work environment that seeks to answer challenging and practical questions about teaching and learning and is centered on teachers and students and the tools that can help create successful learning environments.

EDC’s Center for Children and Technology is seeking a full-time researcher to support a series of studies that explore the role of public media in young children’s learning related to computational thinking, literacy, and future careers and jobs. The position is ideal for an individual with research expertise, experience working with young children in different settings and an interest in conducting applied research to understand how families and educators can use media and technology to help young children develop. The researcher will have the opportunity to become involved in all aspects of the research process, including design, data collection in the field, writing and analysis. The position also provides the opportunity to conduct research that has the potential to inform media that is delivered at a large scale. Applicants with experience working with young children; working with communities that are often marginalized; using mixed methods or rigorous qualitative or quantitative research methods such as survey and measure development, experimental design or other related skills; working with educators, and with strong writing and communication skills are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities / What will I be doing? / You will . . .

•      Initiate and execute research projects of moderate scope and diversity; may be responsible for phases of a large complex project

•      Oversee data collection & validation processes, ensuring quality & reliability

•      Exercise leadership in qualitative and/or quantitative research methods for design and instrumentation

·       Participate in proposal and funding planning (e.g., conceptualize or writes major sections of proposals)

•      Anticipate and troubleshoot solutions to potential problems, which may result in products, programs, or services

•      Further augment the organization’s intellectual capital, while exhibiting initiative and capacity to develop your own body of work

Qualifications

•      Knowledge of rigorous research methods

•      Demonstrable leadership skills

•      Excellent writing skills

•      Master’s Degree or PhD, or equivalent combination of experience and education

•      Ability to work independently and effectively in groups

•      Demonstrable initiative, creativity, and flexibility
