Job Description

The Senior Business Development Associate is a member of the U.S. Division Development Team, reporting to the Division Business Development Director. The person in this role will provide support across the business development lifecycle as an integrated team member, including pipeline management, bid decisions, proposal management and reviews, and strategic reporting.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct long-term and short-term strategic research that informs the growth strategy of the division
  • Support data analysis, reporting, and knowledge management to inform business development strategy and operations
  • Serve as capture lead for specific new business opportunities, maintaining the capture plan which directs the strategy on competitors, client, win themes, recruitment, and draft solution design
  • Serve as proposal manager from RFP release through post-submittal, submitting all proposals on-time and with the highest quality of workmanship
  • Contribute to assigned bids and support proposals, including participating in proposal writing, budgeting, copy-editing, packaging, and submission
  • Provide quality control for the proposal and proposal process; interpret solicitations to ensure that the proposal complies with all donor requirements and ensure timely submission
  • Assemble proposal components into a coherent whole and conduct/oversee final review and editing to ensure compliance with donor requirements and consistency of usage and appearance
  • Mentor and coach proposal team members and technical staff in best practices in proposal development
  • Develop and/or implement tools, guides, and templates and other resources to support business development efforts
  • Create project or research snapshots, briefings, in-depth profiles, capacity statements, and other written materials to inform EDC positioning for a bid or to be integrated into proposals
  • Serve as the U.S. Division BD liaison to other EDC departments, external partners, and funding agencies
  • Communicate clearly and courteously; develop and maintain positive relationships with clients, consultants, collaborators, co-workers, field sites, and funders; work respectfully with EDC colleagues
  • The job requires adherence to EDC policies & procedures

Qualifications

This position requires educational achievement; knowledge of federal funding mechanisms; excellent writing skills; demonstrable initiative, creativity, and flexibility; ability to work independently and effectively in groups; and strong interpersonal & organizational skills.

Specific requirements:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent combination of education & experience
  • Strong project, proposal, and people management skills
  • 4-7 years business development related experience, minimum of 4 years of experience managing large, complex proposals in response to RFPs/RFAs issued by US Government agencies
  • Understanding of and experience with government agencies, including their priorities, forecasts, and the requirements of various funding instruments
  • Familiarity with funding research tools such as ResearchPoint, Lexis Nexis, Foundation Center, Donor Search, Foundation Search, iWave, GovWinIQ, and GSA Advantage
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to write persuasive proposals and reports
  • Excellent relationship development skills; experience communicating and networking with donors and key partners
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and Adobe Acrobat Professional required; knowledge of Salesforce or another CRM a plus
  • Ability to work with flexibility, efficiency, enthusiasm, diplomacy, and cultural sensitivity – both individually and as part of a team – and to adjust to shifting priorities
