The STEM and Workforce Success Portfolio has an opening for a database programmer, reporting to the Project Director, in Waltham, MA.

The STEM and Workforce Success Portfolio develops programs that support the intellectual and career development of learners to prepare the next generation of leaders and the future workforce. We design authentic and rigorous STEM learning experiences in- and out-of-school that engage students, build their skills to explore options and make significant contributions to their communities. We conduct research and evaluation, develop curricula and conduct professional development for practitioners to strengthen STEM education and professional pathways. Embedded in all our work is a deep commitment to equity and access and to ensuring that all learners have access to and engage with the highest quality learning experiences. EDC casual employees generally work as needed.  A casual position receives statutory benefits of Social Security contributions, Medicare contributions, unemployment insurance, worker’s compensation insurance and sick leave.  A casual position ends when work is complete.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The person in this position is expected to communicate clearly and courteously; to develop and maintain positive relationships with clients, consultants, collaborators, co-workers, field sites, and funders; and to work respectfully with EDC colleagues. The job requires adherence to EDC policies & procedures.

The database programmer will:

  • integrate various school data sources into the district's school information system
  • create user interfaces that reduce user error when inputting data
  • create custom queries to be used for data visualizations

 

Qualifications

This position requires educational achievement; excellent writing skills; demonstrable initiative, creativity, and flexibility; ability to work independently and effectively in groups; and strong interpersonal & organizational skills. Specific requirements:

 

  • Degree required
    • Bachelors: Computer Science
  • Degree preferred
    • Masters: Computer Science         
  • Number of years of experience in specific field: 15 years
  • Skills (specify required or preferred):
    • Proficiency in SCL programming
    • Proficiency in relational databases
    • Proficiency in data integration
    • Proficiency in creating user interfaces that reduce user error
