EDC has an exciting opportunity for a Director of STEM Education Strategy to guide us in improving the quality and equity of PreK–16 STEM learning. The Director will design EDC’s next generation of STEM education innovation and improvement work. This is a new role at EDC, and we seek someone who:

1. Will cultivate, internally and externally, a strategic approach to growing our presence in STEM education in the United States
2. Will create and foster collaborative relationships with partners and funders to diversify funding sources
3. Has a demonstrated commitment to addressing issues of equity, inclusion, and racial parity in access to and success in STEM education

We work to improve the quality, effectiveness, and equity of STEM learning and teaching, giving all students a solid foundation in computer science and creating pathways to STEM careers for students from underrepresented groups, students from low-income families, and English learners.

The Role

The Director will craft a vision and carry out a strategy to expand thought leadership efforts and secure funding for strategic new initiatives to deepen our work in:

• Increasing equity in computer science education and integrating computational thinking into all aspects of education to benefit all children and youth
• Expanding access and improving STEM education for underrepresented groups
• Preparing children and youth for the future workforce.

Essential Duties

The Director will:

• Guide external-facing efforts to form new strategic partnerships with the goal of diversifying and expanding our funding pipeline
• Identify opportunities to be an ambassador for EDC’s STEM expertise and expand the range of diverse partners, conferences, and communities with which EDC STEM education experts are connected
• Contribute substantially to EDC’s intellectual capital and external visibility at key events and conferences, in the media, and with policy makers

Minimum Requirements

• Proven success in business development across a variety of funders (federal, state, foundation, and corporate)
• Passionate, persuasive, and able to inspire interest in PreK–16 STEM education improvement
• Generative, versatile, flexible, results-oriented, and collaborative
• Highly skilled in forming and sustaining relationships and partnerships
• Demonstrated dedication to equity, cultural responsiveness, and broadening participation of underrepresented groups in STEM education
• Experienced leader who is able to engage others in a vision, empower action, and coach teams
• Effective, positive, and transparent communication skills
• Education or training in one of the STEM disciplines with a broad understanding across all areas of STEM education
• Established credibility with a wide range of funders and partners
• Deep knowledge of the current landscape of formal and/or informal STEM education
