Job Description

The Medical Director oversees the strategy of effectively managing the clinics and centers for the organization. The Medical Director is responsible for managing clinical operations, liaising between administration and medical staff to ensure patients receive the highest standard of medical care.

  • Provide clinical supervision and medical consultation to providers and other medical staff to ensure compliance with treatment protocols and ensure smooth flow of front and back-office procedures.
  • Provide direct service and collaboration with all multidisciplinary team  members in the provision of health care to patient population.
  • Develop, update, and review of clinical protocols/policies and procedures, as appropriate.
  • Participate in Senior Management team meetings, QI team meetings, and Standards of Care meetings.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly reports of primary care activities for programs, as required.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings with case managers, therapists, and other staff.
  • Maintain and document an active peer review process according to policies and procedures.
  • Ensure the continuing education and professional development of providers and medical staff.
  • Work closely with the Chief Operating Officer in the direction of all clinical services, developing and implementing clinical policies and procedures, and meeting the goals and objectives outlined in the Quality Improvement plan.
  • Participate in the development of strategic planning and quality improvement activities.
  • Maintain emergency call coverage and coordination with hospital medical staff.
  • Participate in coordination of in-service education and training for staff.

Supervisory Responsibilities for Medical Director

  • Directly supervises 8-10 staff and medical professionals
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications

  • Valid medical license to practice medicine in the District of Columbia and Maryland
  • Master of Health Administration (MHA)
  • Master of Business Administration (MBA) advantageous.
  • 4+ years clinical and leadership experience.
  • 4+ years’ experience in a management role. Clinical risk management experience.
  • Primary Care Specialty certified.
  • HIV Experience desired.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with eClinical Works EMR Software
