What will you do
Role Summary
The Junior Mechanical Technologist supports the Engineering team in the design, development, and execution of custom vessel projects. This role assists with 2D and 3D design work, documentation, and production support while gaining hands-on experience in a fast-paced marine manufacturing environment.
Working closely with the Engineering Designer and Project teams, the successful candidate will help translate engineering concepts into accurate drawings, models, and technical documentation that support efficient vessel builds.
This is an ideal opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career technologist looking to develop practical skills in custom manufacturing and marine engineering.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering & Design Support
- Assist in creating and revising 2D CAD drawings and 3D models.
- Support development of layouts, assemblies, and fabrication drawings.
- Maintain organized engineering documentation and revision control.
- Assist with design updates based on production feedback.
Production & Project Support
- Work with Engineering and Project teams to support vessel build requirements.
- Help prepare files for CNC routers, plasma tables, or fabrication processes.
- Assist with prototype development and testing, including 3D printing.
- Support troubleshooting of design issues during production.
Technical & Administrative Tasks
- Prepare spreadsheets, reports, and engineering documentation using Microsoft Office (with strong emphasis on Excel).
- Participate in design reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure drawings and files meet company standards and accuracy requirements.
Qualifications
Qualifications & Experience
Education
- Mechanical Engineering Technologist diploma or certification (required).
- Marine or manufacturing experience considered an asset.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Experience with 2D CAD software.
- Experience with 3D modeling software.
- Exposure to CNC programming and operation, including routers or plasma tables (preferred).
- Experience with 3D printing technologies is an asset.
Experience Level
- New graduate or early-career candidate.
- Co-op, internship, or significant academic project experience preferred.
Personal Attributes
- Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
- Comfortable working in a hands-on manufacturing environment.
- Organized, collaborative, and proactive.
- Interest in marine design or custom fabrication.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work both at a computer workstation and in a manufacturing facility.
- Occasional lifting up to 15 lbs.

Working Conditions
- 18+ years of age and legally authorized to work in Canada;
- Work is performed in an office adjacent to a metal manufacturing environment;
- Noise level is occasionally moderate. Manual dexterity is required to use computer, phone, and peripherals;
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit or stand. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch;
- Noticeable pressure from deadlines, production quotas, accuracy or similar demands exists.
