Job Description

POSITION PURPOSE AND SUMMARY:

Under the Manager, the EMT (“employee”) will perform duties associated with providing medical and first aid services and emergency medical care to the sick and injured in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations and EMS Unlimited policies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The employee must possess and apply knowledge and skills necessary to perform the duties of an EMT and Rescuer, in a dignified and compassionate manner, including but not limited to:

  • Must be capable of performing all duties autonomously and in the austere. It is not uncommon for EMS Unlimited staff to be staged at assigned aid station locations where they are the sole medical provider. 
  • Responding to emergency and non-emergency requests calmly, efficiently and promptly;
  • Administering basic life support to patients at the scene, in a pre-hospital/pre-transport setting in accordance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations and standards;
  • Assessing the nature and extent of injury or illness to establish and prioritize medical procedures to be followed;
  • Maintaining order at scenes, including crowd disbursement and restraint of family and friends; and Completing patient care forms, insurance forms, evaluation forms, and all other forms in a competent and timely fashion. 
  • Conduct pre-event medical equipment inventory. 
  • Cleaning, organizing and restocking supplies in a ready condition after each use;
  • Respond to requests for emergency and non-emergency medical care at events and other duties related to assisting event staff with general tasks that support the event;
  • Maintaining accurate records of request for emergent and non-emergent first aid and medical care. Properly document each customer/patient interaction on the approved Patient Care Report in accordance with policies and procedures;
  • Handling radio communications professionally and efficiently with careful regard to the divulgence of information respecting confidentiality requests at all times;
  • Work Cooperatively with assisting agencies. This may include, but is not limited to; Event Staff, Volunteers, security teams, EMS Transport agencies, event participants and spectators. Be nice, professional, courteous and an all-around happy and pleasant person. 
  • The employee must perform all job responsibilities in a manner that protects patient privacy:
  • The employee is expected to protect the privacy of all patient information in accordance with EMS Unlimited Privacy Policies, procedures, and practices, as required by federal (and state) law, and in accordance with general principles of professionalism as a healthcare provider. Failure to comply with policies and procedures on patient privacy may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.
  • The employee may access protected health information and other patient information only to the extent that is necessary to complete your job duties. The employee may only share such information with those you have a need to know specific patient information you have in your possession to complete their job responsibilities related to treatment, payment or other company operations.
  • The employee is encouraged and expected to report, without the threat of retaliation, any concerns regarding policies and procedures on patient privacy and any observed practices in violation of that policy to the designated Privacy Officer.
  • The employee is expected to actively participate in Company privacy training and is required to communicate privacy policy information to co-workers, students, patients, and others in accordance with Company Policy.
  • The employee must also:
  • Be a team player, as EMS is a team effort, and providers must provide necessary assistance to ensure work area sanitation, readiness, and adherence to quality assurance standards;
  • Be flexible - work shift schedule may vary, and the start and shift times may vary due to the nature of the business;
  • Maintain a thorough working knowledge of applicable current standards of care, including equipment functions and uses;
  • Assure that all certifications, licenses, and registrations are up-to-date; and
  • The employee conducts themselves in a courteous, helpful, dignified and professional manner at all times when dealing with patients, co-workers, supervisors and or the public.

Qualifications

The employee must have a minimum of either a high school diploma or a GED as evidence of completion of high school education and must have and maintain current state driver's license.

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations

  • The employee must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license, current state EMT certification and CPR.
  • FEMA ICS training 100 and 700 is required
  • Additional certifications preferred: PHTLS, ATLS, PALS, EPC, AMLS, Hazmat, Wilderness
  • Preferred skills: Hiking, Mountain biking, snowmobiling

Additional Information

PAY: $15/hr

SCHEDULE (Events):

Management will publish work availability (scheduled events requiring staffing). Schedules will be published via public calendar, emails and text messages. Open positions will be filled based on specific needs. Early requests for shift sign up and geographical proximity to the event will be given preference. Accepting a position with EMS Unlimited means that you understand the greater bulk of work hours are made available from May to September – Hours outside of that window are rarely available. Shifts may vary in duration from 2 to 12 hours.

  • There is no guarantee to a minimum or set work hours that will be available. Employee acknowledges that this is a seasonal position and work availability is intermittent. 
  • Shift assignments will be made based on past employee performance, contributions, availability, experience, and special skill sets as they apply to the unique needs of specific events. 
  • Failure to respond to a communication from management after three attempts will result in termination.
