Job Description

As a member of the IT Infrastructure and Operations Team, the IT Systems Administrator is responsible for managing, maintaining and monitoring Emco’s technology infrastructure networks, systems and services including network equipment, on-premises servers, virtual machines and cloud systems. In addition, the IT Systems Administrator will be responsible for upholding IT operations best practices. The IT Systems Administrator will contribute to IT operations continual improvement efforts focused on maturing operational standards and best practices for Emco.

The Emco IT Operations team provides 24x7x365 support and therefore candidates must be able to participate in an outside of business hour on call rotation.

This is a contract position. Candidates working from remote locations in the Eastern time zone will be considered. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada.   

Key Responsibilities

·         Work with Emco’s IT Systems, IT Security and IT Project Delivery teams to deploy, secure, maintain, monitor and support IT infrastructure and services both on premise and in cloud

·         Manage Windows and Linux servers and virtual machines in a high availability environment

·         Perform enhancements, changes and upgrades to ITSM ticketing system environments

·         Enhance performance, scalability, reliability and resiliency of Emco IT infrastructure and services

·         Provide ongoing reporting and recommendations to management related to availability, reliability, resiliency, performance and capacity of on-premises and cloud services

·         Perform system administration activities including, backups, application of security controls, enterprise software upgrades and infrastructure changes

·         Support Emco’s cybersecurity stance by implementing, managing and maintaining appropriate technical controls

·         Handle ticket escalations from Tier I and Tier II Service Desk Analysts

·         Perform research with vendors and external technical resources for analysis and resolution of complex technical problems

·         Complete root cause and problem analysis to find permanent and effective solutions, while recommending infrastructure improvement

·         Participate in IT change management and execute proposed changes

Qualifications

Education and Experience

·         Post-secondary degree in computer science or equivalent

·         Minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in a complex environment supporting hundreds of remote sites and thousands of end-users

·         Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA), Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), VMware (VCP) and Cisco Certified Network Associate certification(s) an asset

·         Azure and/or AWS Certified Solutions Architect and/or Administration certifications an asset

·         ITIL service management certifications are an asset

Technical

·         Implementing, monitoring, managing and troubleshooting Windows Server platforms

·         Implementing, monitoring, managing and troubleshooting VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V platforms

·         Implementing, monitoring, managing and troubleshooting networking equipment

·         Implementing, monitoring, managing and troubleshooting ITSM Ticketing System

·         Implementing, managing and troubleshooting Windows desktops

·         Strong knowledge in Active Directory, ADFS, ADCS, DC Promo, GPO, RDS, VDi

·         Administration and troubleshooting of Azure, AWS and Office365 cloud services

·         Experience in migrating on-premises systems to Azure and AWS cloud

·         Strong knowledge of networking/distributed computing environment concepts

·         Adept in DHCP, DNS, VLANs, VPNs, and other network fundamentals

·         Direct experience with monitoring tools like MS Operations Manager, Nagios and Zabbix

·         Ability to script common operational activities in PowerShell, Bash, Perl or Python

·         Experience with backup solutions and system(s) and disaster recovery

·         Knowledge of hardware including RAID, clustering and out of band management
