Job Description

Looking for an in-house legal role where no two days look quite the same?

At EDF, Success is Personal. As Legal Counsel within Nuclear Operations, you’ll use your legal expertise to support one of the UK’s most important energy businesses, working across complex commercial, regulatory and operational matters that genuinely make an impact.

The Opportunity

This is a broad and varied role. You could be advising on a commercial contract one day, supporting a regulatory or health and safety matter the next, or helping the business navigate a dispute or complex property issue.

You’ll work closely with colleagues across Nuclear Operations and the wider EDF Group, providing pragmatic, commercially focused advice that helps the business make confident decisions and manage risk effectively.

The role is based at Gloucester Business Park, with Monday and Tuesday as our regular on-site days, giving you the opportunity to work closely with the team in person while benefiting from flexibility across the rest of the week. Travel to other EDF UK locations may be required depending on business needs, with occasional travel within Europe.

You’ll join us on a competitive salary, alongside an excellent benefits package.

Due to the vetting requirements associated with this role, we’re unable to offer sponsorship and applicants must have lived in the UK continuously for the last three years.

Who You Are

We’re looking for someone who brings strong legal judgement, commercial awareness and, just as importantly, a collaborative approach.

You’ll enjoy being part of a team, be willing to get stuck in and support colleagues when priorities shift. You’ll be open-minded, adaptable and comfortable working across a varied workload. Are you experienced in...

  • To be a qualified solicitor with the relevant qualifications to practise in England/Wales and Scotland
  • At least 12 months’ post-qualification experience, so this role is not suitable for newly qualified solicitors
  • Experience across commercial and contract law, including drafting and negotiating agreements
  • Experience managing or advising on litigation and disputes
  • Knowledge or experience within areas such as property, health & safety and regulatory law
  • Strong commercial judgement and the ability to turn complex legal issues into clear, practical advice
  • Confidence managing multiple matters and priorities at the same time
  • A collaborative mindset, with a genuine willingness to share workload, support others and contribute to the wider team

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll have the opportunity to get involved in a genuinely diverse range of legal work, including:

  • Providing timely, practical and commercially focused legal advice across Nuclear Operations
  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial, construction, property and project-related contracts
  • Advising on regulatory, health & safety and compliance matters
  • Supporting the business with the prevention and management of disputes, claims and litigation
  • Managing legal matters from start to finish, including instructing and overseeing external law firms where appropriate
  • Keeping ahead of legal and regulatory developments and helping colleagues understand what changes mean for the business
  • Working collaboratively with other lawyers and stakeholders across EDF to find solutions to complex challenges

Pay, Benefits and Culture

Alongside a competitive starting salary, potential for an annual bonus and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include customisable benefits such as electric vehicle leasing, discounted gym membership, life assurance, tech vouchers, experience days and more.

“The team are fantastic, hardworking and knowledgeable, but most importantly everyone is kind and approachable. I have had the opportunity to work on some really interesting and complex issues that I wouldn’t necessarily have had the opportunity to do in private practice. Alongside this, the team place emphasis on work-life balance and encourage taking time to recharge.”
