Job Description

Ready to apply your engineering skills to one of the UK’s most ambitious infrastructure projects? At EDF, Success is Personal. Join our Engineering Industrial Placement and help shape the future of energy while building a career that’s unique to you.

"Electricity is such a vital component in everyone’s lives. It powers schools, businesses and hospitals, so I knew that if I did my placement within EDF then I would have a really large impact on society, and that made my placement a lot more fulfilling.” Priyanka, Science and Engineering Industrial Placement.

The Opportunity

This Engineering Industrial Placement is expected to begin in early September 2027 and offers a starting salary of £26,050, alongside the opportunity to work at #HinkleyPointC, one of the UK’s most significant energy infrastructure projects.

During this 12-month placement, you’ll gain hands-on experience in a dynamic and safety-focused environment. Working alongside experienced professionals, you’ll contribute to major projects while developing technical, analytical and collaborative skills within a business that’s driving the transition towards An Electric Britain.

What You’ll Experience

Being part of Hinkley Point C means helping to shape the future of low-carbon energy. You'll contribute to a project that will provide clean electricity for millions of homes while supporting the UK's energy security.

During your Engineering Industrial Placement, you’ll be immersed in practical learning and supported by mentors and collaborative teams. You'll contribute to real-world engineering challenges, safety improvement initiatives, radiation protection strategies and condition monitoring programmes while applying your academic learning in a professional environment.

The placements offer broad exposure to the delivery of major infrastructure and nuclear new-build projects at Hinkley Point C. Working within multidisciplinary teams, you'll support project planning, construction delivery, programme controls, commercial management, risk mitigation, stakeholder engagement and technical coordination.

You'll also support Site Nuclear Compliance activities, helping ensure compliance with Nuclear Site Licence requirements, planning permissions and lease obligations through a combination of office-based activities and on-site inspections.

Your Work Location

You’ll be based at #HinkleyPointC, where you’ll be part of a team driving progress on one of the UK’s most significant energy projects. Transport to the Hinkley Point C site is provided from several collection points. This on-site placement provides the opportunity to gain first-hand experience of large-scale engineering and construction activities while working closely with project teams and stakeholders.

Who You Are

To be eligible for this EDF Industrial Placement, you need to be studying towards, or have already achieved, a bachelor’s or postgraduate degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Construction, Nuclear, Instrumentation and Control, Structural, Chemical, Technical, Process Engineering, or a closely related discipline. You'll have an interest in engineering, technology and the future of low-carbon energy.

To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting, which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least three of the past five years.

Pay, Benefits and Culture

Alongside a starting salary of £26,050 per annum and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include customisable benefits such as electric vehicle leasing, discounted gym membership, life assurance, tech vouchers, experience days, and more.
