Come and join our expanding Sizewell C (SZC) team and work on one of the most exciting and largest megaprojects in the UK, whilst being at the forefront of the UK’s climate change agenda and energy policy.
Following on from the success of the new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point C (HPC), the Sizewell C Project (SZC) in Suffolk is the UK’s next nuclear power new build project. The project has obtained planning approval and has started construction works. It has recently achieved Financial Investment Decision (FID) meaning that all the funding for the full lifespan of the project is now secured and in place guaranteeing the full delivery of this new nuclear power station. When completed, it will provide dependable electricity to 6 million homes for 60 years, which along with renewables, will support Britain to achieve Net Zero by 2050.
We are seeking a Technical Engineering Manager - Transverse to be part of the Engineering and Technical function within the Civil Works Programme. You’ll be responsible for the technical aspects of the end-to-end design and detailing process in their specific scope area.
The Role
The Technical Engineering Manager – Transverse role will focus on topics that are transverse across Main Civils Works - Nuclear Island (NI) and Conventional Island & Balance of Plant (CIBOP), Ancillary Works and Earthworks and Enabling Works as directed by the Head of Civil Engineering Programme working with other respective Transverse TEMs and Subject Matter Experts (e.g. geotechnical).
In this role, you’ll take the lead in bringing together the us (Sizewell C Client) and the Responsible Designer, ensuring their inputs, requirements and expectations are fully aligned. You’ll drive technical change control, oversee the technical assurance process to guarantee high‑quality delivery and act as a central connector across key technical stakeholders - including EDF Nuclear Services Engineering, the Sizewell C Design Authority, the Responsible Designer and our Level 3 Design & Detailing supply chain.
You’ll also work closely with Technical Engineering Managers across interfacing scopes, creating clarity around ownership, responsibilities and cross‑discipline coordination. Backed by Programme Engineering Managers and Project Managers, you’ll play an important part in keeping technical delivery cohesive, controlled and on track.
The Engineering & Technical function within the Civil Works Programme (CWP) plays a pivotal role in driving the success of this major project. As a core part of the programme, the team is responsible for:
- Defining the design, engineering and technical requirements that set the foundations for safe, high‑quality delivery.
- Leading the end‑to‑end delivery of all CWP design, from initial requirements through to final acceptance - this includes managing the Engineering & Technical budget, resources, and supply chain partners to ensure designs are delivered effectively to the CWP Delivery Teams.
- Embedding constructability and design integration, ensuring that engineering solutions are aligned across the Civil Works Programme and fully coordinated with interfacing scopes (e.g. plant and equipment), safe and efficient to construct as well as maintaining replication and adopting lessons learned from HPC.
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Honours Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or equivalent
- Must be Chartered Engineer (MICE or MIStructE)
- Experience in technical leadership with a technically orientated delivery team
- Experience of working with technical direction of suppliers

Additional Information
Join the team at Sizewell C. Our vision is to Lead The Way On Nuclear.
The Sizewell C team is one of the most exciting and largest new megaprojects in the UK, whilst being at the forefront of the UK’s climate change agenda and energy policy. We have begun constructing a 3.2-gigawatt nuclear power station on the Suffolk coast in the East of England replicating, wherever possible, the design used for Hinkley Point C, another nuclear power station being built in Somerset.
When built, Sizewell C will be one of the largest power stations to operate in the UK. The power station will generate low carbon electricity for at least 60 years, supplying over 6 million homes and supporting around 7% of the UK’s current electricity needs.
Our vision is to Lead The Way On Nuclear. We want Sizewell C to define what good leadership for the nuclear industry and British infrastructure looks like and deliver on it. We understand the feats of organisation, logistics, collaboration and imagination that building nuclear requires. We are building for the next generation for their home-grown energy, energy price stability and ultra-low carbon power in abundance. We also want to set the benchmark for maximising long-lasting social value as we build and demonstrate how smart collaboration can work for the benefit of communities – locally, regionally and nationally.
We are the first nuclear power station in the UK to be funded under the Regulated Asset Base funding model (RAB). Our largest shareholder is the UK Government, alongside equity partners La Caisse, Centrica, EDF and Amber Infrastructure.
Sizewell C operates within a complex and fast-moving stakeholder environment, engaging with a wide range of partners including government bodies, regulators, local communities, supply chain partners, and international collaborators. This makes Sizewell C a uniquely stimulating place to work — where navigating evolving priorities, balancing interests, and building trusted relationships is just as critical as technical excellence. For those who thrive in dynamic, multi-dimensional settings, it offers unmatched professional challenge and growth.
When joining Sizewell C, you may wonder why you are contacted by colleagues with an EDF email or see the EDF logo on portals that you access and/or documentation you receive; this is because we have partnered with EDF for the provision of a number of support services whilst we complete a successful transition out of the EDF group.
At Sizewell C we encourage and embrace diversity and how it can improve our experience and performance at work. It is a requirement that those who join us have the right to work in the UK. Whilst sponsorship may be a possibility that we can explore, we are fully committed to local recruitment where possible, and those already holding the right to work in the UK.
To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting, which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least three of the past five years.
By submitting an application to this role, you acknowledge that you have read and understood Sizewell C’s employee privacy policy and EDF's employee privacy policy. Just to let you know, EDF will be processing and sharing information about your application on behalf of Sizewell C.
