3rd Line Infrastructure Support Engineer

Job Description

A reputable Managed Service provider based in Manchester with over 25 years of experience of operating in their industry with a diverse range of clients over various industries including insurance, retail, gaming and other industries are seeking a 3rd Line Wintel Engineer to join their dynamic and growing team of 25 Wintel Engineers

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitoring and maintaining computer systems to agreed service levels
  • Managing incidents and problems appropriately within agreed service levels
  • Creating and performing authorised changes to customer environments, attending CABs
  • Perform root cause analysis on reoccurring incidents
  • Act as a technical escalation point for major incidents related to the service delivery from the datacentre and customer sites
  • Scheduled patching of Virtualised environments
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement programmes (SIPs / technical roadmaps) of all technology platforms across the datacentre
  • Assist with acceptance into service, understanding the operational support requirements for all new implementations and enhancements/upgrades
  • Engage with third party vendors (such as VMware, Microsoft or Citrix) and escalate when necessary
  • Contributing to delivering team performance
  • Participate in an on-call technical escalation process outside of UK business hours
  • Ensure technical documentation is completed and updated to professional standards

Skills Knowledge & Experience

The ideal candidate will be self-motivated with a track record of working with a datacentre technology stack and an appreciation of support and service transition. Experience of working in a fast paced, dynamic environment with multiple customers and projects. Candidate ideally has experience of working in a large solution provider with a rapidly expanding customer base.

Skills

Essential:

  • Detailed technical knowledge of MS Directory Services, VMWare, Hyper-V and storage technologies backed with practical experience in a corporate environment preferably serving customers
  • Technical knowledge of virtualisation technologies (vCenter, vSphere, ESXi, DRS, vMotion, HA, SRM, SCVMM, Hyper-V)
  • Appropriate certifications in core technology platforms (MS, VMware and Hyper-V)
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex, technical, multi-site and multi-disciplinary issues
  • Strong background with network, compute and storage technologies in large-scale deployments
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience providing support to enterprise level clients
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Extensive technical experience with Microsoft Windows server operating systems



Desirable:

  • An understanding Citrix technologies (XenApp, XenDesktop, Netscaler, App-V, AppSense, CAG, CSG, EdgeSite, Director, PVS/MCS, Thin Clients)
  • An understanding of Microsoft Exchange 2010 to 2016 (Inc Exchange online)
  • Experience of public cloud platforms and administration of them
  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, MIS or equivalent preferred
  • ITIL qualification or awareness of the ITIL processes
  • Scripting knowledge
