Job Description

About the Position:  

The Inventory Manager is responsible for supporting inventory teams at all Dunn Lumber locations. This position sets companywide inventory policies and best practices for all locations, including inventory tracking, counting, reporting, accuracy, loss prevention, signage, etc. This position is also responsible for holding inventory teams accountable to these policies through training and development. Rather than being the direct supervisor of every Inventory Team, this position works with store leadership to provide support and guidance so that each branch can be in line with company inventory goals and objectives.   

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works with the Product Team to evaluate order/delivery schedules, and documentation. Including keeping SO (Special Order) Vendor Desk data current  

  • Analyzes inventory reports to improve data integrity with negative inventory and inaccurate inventory quantities  

  • Manges the process of Supplier Returns and communicates with vendors as necessary 

  • Ensures the stores have efficient special ordering processes and schedules  

  • Manages inventory levels in coordination with excess and obsolete policies  

  • Coordinates with vendors and yards for scheduling, as well as supports the creation of communication and/or documentation of inventory issues at the yard level 

  • Conducts inventory adjustments and trains inventory leads on correct inventory adjustment procedures 

  • Uses and improves “smart views” to assist and manage inventory teams with cycle counts, ensuring counts are done by deadlines 

  • Organizes and regularly manages large price changes 

  • Helps each branch maintain proper levels of backstock, works with the PT on promotional stock, and trains inventory leads on stock rotation and how to maintain stock on shelves in a timely manner 

  • Performs root cause analysis on inventory variances. Acts as the lead point of contact for inventory issues throughout the company 

  • Ensures all stores are compliant with various promotions 

  • Identifies and implements process improvement opportunities 

  • Supports the organization’s metric goals and objectives  

  • Audits company-wide inventory to support the company goals regarding profitability, turns, and outages across all product categories and branches  

  • Develops and implements inventory reporting in accordance with industry best practices

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for overseeing all Inventory Leads at the store level in cooperation with the General Manager and each store leadership team (Branch Manager, Assistant Branch Manager, Foreman, and Assistant Foreman).  

Additional Information

Education and/or Experience 

Previous experience in inventory management is required. Additional training or certifications is preferred.  

Certificates, Licenses, or Registrations 

This position has no required certificates, licenses, or registrations.  

Computer Skills 

To perform this job successfully, and individual should have competent knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams). General computer use abilities are required and experience with LBM software (such as BisTrack) is preferred.  

Physical Demands 

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is sedentary a large majority of the time. As needed the employee may be subject to medium work. This involves exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.  

Work Environment 

This job primarily operates in a clerical, office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. When in an office setting, the noise level in the work environment is low. There is some required travel to other Dunn Lumber locations. Travel between locations will require reliable (non-public) transportation. When out at the retail branches. The noise level will be medium to loud. Depending on where the employee is working.
