Job Description
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
We are looking for a highly skilled Network Administrator with a strong background in network infrastructure design, vendor management, and project coordination. This unique role combines advanced technical support with significant project management responsibilities, making it ideal for someone comfortable with both the technical and operational sides of IT. If you are someone who thrives in managing network infrastructure projects, overseeing vendor relationships, and working with telecom providers, this is the role for you.
In this position, you’ll be expected to dive into network configurations, design firewalls, and manage network setups, but the hands-on tech support is a smaller component of your day-to-day work. The majority of your time will be spent on managing projects, coordinating with vendors, and ensuring the timely execution of tasks related to office openings, closures, and network infrastructure buildouts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Network Design & Management: Handle network infrastructure design, firewall design, and other key network configurations (Cisco, Meraki). Although these tasks are infrequent (every 3-5 years), you will lead the process when they arise, especially during acquisitions or major network changes.
- Project Management: Take charge of opening and closing office locations, ensuring all IT infrastructure is set up or dismantled efficiently. Manage IT-side projects alongside other teams, overseeing contractors, electricians, and vendors to complete installations and upgrades.
- Vendor Management: Work closely with internal and external vendors, such as telecom providers (T-Mobile, Verizon), ISP vendors (Spectrum, Comcast), and property managers to ensure smooth project execution. The vendor management aspect of this role makes up 60-70% of the day-to-day responsibilities.
- Telecom Management: Manage data card accounts (T-Mobile/Verizon) and work with ISP vendors for service installations, troubleshooting, and upgrades.
- Billing & Expense Management: Analyze billing reports, identify usage trends, and allocate expenses. You'll be expected to manage cost-saving initiatives and ensure proper resource allocation for network-related projects.
- Support: While tech support is minimal, you will still provide second-level support for advanced technical issues, ensuring seamless collaboration between teams and vendors.
- Adaptability: A key part of this role is your ability to learn and adapt. We are looking for someone who is willing to train and teach others, and who is moldable to shape the future direction of our network infrastructure.
Qualifications
MUST HAVE:
- Education: 4-year Bachelor’s degree or 2-year Associate’s degree in computer science, information systems, management information systems, or a related field. Equivalent work experience will also be considered.
- Technical Experience: At least 2 years of hands-on experience with enterprise network-related technologies. (Cisco Meraki, Mitel Cloud, Juniper, Microsoft 365)
- Vendor Management: Proven ability to manage vendor relationships, especially in IT and telecom services.
- Project Management: Experience coordinating with contractors, property managers, and electricians for network buildouts, relocations, and office setups.
- Eligibility:
- U.S. citizens or individuals authorized to work in the United States (visa sponsorship is unavailable).
- Must reside in the Minneapolis- St Paul, MN area and commute to the office at least 3 days per week.
NICE TO HAVES:
- Server Infrastructure: Strong understanding of best practices for managing, controlling, and monitoring server infrastructure.
- Cloud Expertise: Experience with virtual network and cloud-based infrastructure (AWS/Azure), including setting up from scratch.
- Certifications: Any of the following are a plus:
- MCSE, MCSA, MCITP
- Network+, Security+
- CCNA, CCIE, CISSP
- Certified Network Computer Technician, CCT
- CompTIA Network+
- VCP (VMware Certified Professional)
Additional Information
SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES KEY FOR SUCCESS:
- Communication and Collaboration: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to effectively manage tasks, deadlines, and relationships with vendors, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
- Organizational Expertise: Strong ability to prioritize, multitask, and maintain focus while managing complex projects across multiple locations.
- Technical and Project Management Proficiency: A balanced skillset that includes:
- 50% hands-on technical support, including network troubleshooting and hardware configuration.
- 50% project management, focusing on infrastructure build-outs, relocations, and vendor coordination.
- Adaptability and Growth Mindset: Flexibility to thrive in a fast-paced environment, with a willingness to learn new technologies and processes to meet evolving business needs.
- Attention to Detail: Rigorous attention to detail in documenting and managing network operations, project plans, and vendor communications.
If you are a highly skilled Network Administrator with experience overseeing large-scale network infrastructure and have a strong project management mindset, we would love to hear from you!
