Please note:  This is a driving position.  In addition to travel between shift sites, this position requires transportation of individuals in staff’s personal vehicle. All mileage accrued while on shift is reimbursed.  Valid driver’s license, access to reliable transportation, and acceptable driving record required.

Schedule:  Full-time with some afternoon, evenings, and weekend hours

Wage:  $20.00/hour

Job Description

    As a Job Coach, you'll play a crucial role in supporting individuals with disabilities in their career journeys. You'll provide personalized one-on-one assistance tailored to each client’s needs. Your tasks may include helping with resumes, preparing for interviews, participating in orientations, guiding clients in learning their job duties, and providing on-site support to ensure successful task completion. This direct support is essential for their success on the job so they can become as independent as possible.

    Vocational rehabilitation services take place in various business settings within the Portland, Oregon metro community.

    What You'll Do:

    • Manage a caseload of individuals receiving employment services.
    • Communicate with clients to understand their interests, skills, abilities, goals, and support needs.
    • Help the individual set and achieve goals; assist in overcoming personal barriers.
    • Provide job search assistance and interview preparation.
    • Assess and develop resumes based on skills and strengths.
    • Help clients communicate with employers and co-workers.
    • Provide one-on-one training; teach clients how to complete job tasks.
    • Help develop positive social, work, and life skills.
    • Demonstrate positive work habits and practices
    • Offer prompts, cues, and support to encourage skill development and independence.
    • Monitor and report progress, challenges, and work performance.
    • Ensure safety is always maintained in the work environment.
    • Create lasting, positive impacts on peoples’ lives through coaching, mentoring, and encouraging others to reach their employment goals.

    Qualifications

    • Some evening and weekend availability required.
    • Genuine passion for supporting others and a strong sense of advocacy.
    • A flexible, motivated, self-starter with the ability to work independently.
    • Effective communication skills (listening, speaking, and writing).
    • Customer service driven.
    • Demonstrates patience, compassion, and excellent interpersonal skills with a professional demeanor.
    • Ability to adapt to various work settings; flexible to changing circumstances.
    • Computer skills, including MS Office, email, and basic data entry.
    • Previous experience in Job Coaching, Teaching, Skills Training, or Direct Care preferred.
    • Bachelor’s degree preferred, two-year degree accepted OR minimum six-months experience in human services.
    • Must be at least 18 years of age.
    • This is a driving position. A valid driver’s license, access to reliable transportation, and an acceptable driving record are required.

    Additional Information

    Successful candidates will be required to meet all Oregon State Department of Human Services requirements.
