Job Description

Our client who are one of the best firms in real estate development,They are planning to invest over $300 million in rental housing in Nairobi focused on Students and Young people. They are looking for Chief Finance Officer who is ready to work with a team which is ready to give people affordable housing.

The purpose of the role is to define and execute the financial strategy of the organization as it scales. The CFO will be responsible for reporting the financial status and outlook of the Organization to its stakeholders and oversee the audit and control functions.

The CFO will be reporting to the Chief Executive Officer

Qualifications

The Chief Finance Officer will have the following responsibilities:

Financial Strategy

  •   Plan and manage the Organization’s capital raising processes
  •  Identify and evaluate the different types of capital available to the organization. This is with the aim of selecting those that are most suitable.
  • Conduct detailed financial analysis and forecasts to inform the key strategic decisions to be made by senior management and the Board of Directors.
  • Understand the different legal structures and accounting standards required to operate in different countries and optimize the organization’s structure accordingly
  •   Keep abreast of financial developments that may affect the company.

                                      

Budgeting and Controls

  • Oversee the Opex budget, which includes revenue in terms of fees (project, property and asset management and admin fees) and expenses in terms of payroll, establishment, platform development and central marketing).
  • Oversee project budgets, which include land, construction, professional fees, site personnel, property mobilization, finance costs etc.
  •  Oversee property budgets that include revenue from rooms, retail and other value add charges.
  • Oversee asset management budgets include running of the SPVs and compliance costs.
  •  Provide oversight and ensure sufficient controls on procurement are in place

  • Treasury Management

·        Manage the equity drawdowns and forecasts and generate the relevant Notes Statements.

·        Cashflow planning and management from the company to its subsidiaries.

 

Management Accounting

·        Define and manage the organization’s financial KPIs.

·         Maintain constant awareness of the organization’s financial position and outlook.

·         Develop reporting frameworks for senior management, the Board, investors and other key stakeholders.

·         Support good corporate governance with respect to finance to ensure Organization’s long-term success.

·         Create Granular Cost Centre budgets and transparent cost allocation.

·         Timely & accurate business information (MIS), intelligence and financial management report and dashboards.

·         Oversee Performance gating process through Flash, R&Os, MBRs, QBRs.

·         Create working business partnerships with all business units.

 

Risk and Compliance

·         Provide revenue assurance and mitigate Revenue loss, Cost leakage and Fraud.

·         Plan and manage the Company’s tax liabilities under existing legislation and advice CEO and board of impact of any proposed legislation on Group tax obligations. Evaluate the tax liability impact of contemplated courses of action, minimize the tax burden and deal with tax authorities.

·         Oversee the preparation of the statutory annual accounts.

·         Oversee Cash management and controls around cash handling, petty cash and reimbursements.

·         Manage creditors and debtors as per company rules and regulations and best practice.

 

Corporate Banking Services

·      Handle account opening, closing and operations

·      Responsible for corporate lending (RCF, Asset finance)

·      Coordinate treasury management of forex, deposits etc.

 

Corporate Finance/Investment Management

·         Oversee the management of the corporate finance unit and team.

·         Undertake financial modelling and forecasting, financial appraisals and provide commentaries;

·         Create and communicate Preliminary Investment Reviews (PIR), Business Case (BC) and Pre-Development Reports (PDR).

·         Responsible for debt origination and management including Bank, DFI, Capital Markets including reporting, covenant compliance and liaison with service providers.

·         Manage the income fund including asset management, reporting, governance and compliance.

·         Manage the development fund including management, reporting, governance and compliance.

·         Carry out strategic business financial planning including modelling and investor engagement.

 

Audits and Internal Controls

·         Oversee audit and internal control structures, ensuring strict financial controls are in place and adhered to.

·         Coordinate all external audits – interim and main.

·         Ensure recommendations and corrections identified through audits are implemented.

·         Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements

 

Team Management

·         Manage, motivate, encourage and supervise the finance team and the corporate finance team towards achieving desired goals and optimal outcome.

Additional Information

JOB HOLDER QUALIFICATION

•    MBA in Finance, Accounting, Strategy or Business Administration
•    10-12 years’ work experience in a similar capacity, which involves high value financial planning and transactions. 
•    CPA, ACCA, or equivalent professional qualification.
•    CFA professional qualification will be an added advantage.
•    Competence in the use of BI systems.
•    Demonstrated financial investment and corporate finance experience. 
•    Experience and sound knowledge of accounting rules and principles and interpretation of local tax laws and accounting practices.
•    Self-starter with a good business sense. 
•    Creative and proactive approach towards challenges. 
•    Ability to influence and build strong relationships at all levels especially with external priority stakeholders. 
•    Independent, resourceful and possess high drive to excel.
