Our client is a leading developer in Kenya,They are interested in creating a demand for urban infrastructure which includes housing. They are planning to invest over $300 million in rental housing in Nairobi  focused on Students and Young people.

Our client would like to fill the position of a Chief Finance Director who will be reporting to the Chief Executive Officer.
 

Job Purpose/Summary
As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, drive and implement the Strategic Plans; and deliver high quality financial services ensuring global standards (as well as local accounting and taxation laws and practices), practices, processes and systems are applied and adhered to


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development and realization of integrated business strategies and plans.
  •  Direct financial strategy, planning and forecasts; conferring with CEO and Board members (as appropriate).
  • Oversee financial planning and implementation, including identifying resource requirements, researching financing sources, establishing strategies to approach financiers, submitting proposals and administrating financing records and documentation.
  • Provide accounting services for use by management in planning and controlling the work of the Company including financial accounting, management accounting, forecasting, budgeting and control systems.
  •  Lead the transaction processing and reporting teams (managed by the Finance Director). The role will involve driving improvements to processes including systems enhancement to maximize the return on systems investments and evolving team roles to facilitate this. In addition, the role will continue to develop the management and external reporting for the Company both in terms of content and in the degree of automation and efficiency in report production. 
  • Controls, Financial Risk Management (Revenue & Cost Assurance) and in managing the tax and statutory compliance activities.
  • Maintain records to meet legal and tax requirement and to measure both the inputs and the outcomes of the Company’s financial operations.
  •  Oversee the Corporate Finance team (managed by the Head of Corporate Finance) including:
  1.  Investment Appraisal
  2.  Fund Raising (Property Income Fund, Debt raising through DFI, Banks and Capital
  3. Market, Equity Fund)
  4. Asset Management
  •  Develop the Finance team and resources to ensure ongoing capability to meet business needs in the most efficient and effective way.
  •  Preparation of annual financial plans for internal and external reporting including preparation of various financial reports and budgets i.e. cash flow and fund flow statements, annually / quarterly budgets.
  • Financial, Tax, Risk and Facilities Management - Recommend yearly budgets for Board approval and prudently manages organization’s resources within those budget guidelines according to current laws and regulations
  •  Preparation and finalization of accounts including P & L and Balance Sheets.
  • Oversee all company accounting practices, including accounting departments, preparing budgets, financial reports, and tax and audit functions.
  • Ensure the appropriateness of the key assumptions included in financial plans and annual budget proposals. Provide advice to senior management on these matters.
  • In consultation with CEO and Investment Advisers, plan, supervise and manage cash flow and investment activity for the Group
  •  Ensure in close cooperation with the Chief Executive, that an appropriate financial policy framework is in place to guide financial decision making.
  • Advise the Chief Executive and board on major financial issues which arise and which are outside management authority, for example, a proposed major new financing initiative or a contract for service provision.
  •  Plan and manage the Company’s tax liabilities under existing legislation and advice CEO and board of impact of any proposed legislation on Group tax obligations. Evaluate the tax liability impact of contemplated courses of action, minimize the tax burden and deal with tax authorities.
  • Prepare the statutory annual accounts.
  •  Maintain contact with bankers, investment managers, pension advisers and auditors.
  • Keep abreast of financial developments that may affect the Company

Minimum Requirements

  • University degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or related business discipline with a Professional Finance Qualification.
  • 10-12 years Finance/Accounting experience in a corporate environment.
  •  Business understanding and awareness of all other functions and their interface with Finance
  • Experience and sound knowledge of accounting rules and principles and interpretation of local tax laws and accounting practices.
  • Collaborative team player with strong negotiation, communication and dispute resolution skills.
  • The jobholder needs to demonstrate the ability to build strong relationships with priority stakeholders
  •  High personal and professional integrity and strong work ethic
